We investigate the effects of a finite volume extension for nucleons immersed in nuclear matter. We wish in this way to explore the role played by this non-vanishing (but fixed) volume in shaping nuclear matter properties, in contrast with other models of nuclear physics in which nucleons are treated as point-like particles. We introduce a model characterized by an exclusion volume à la Van der Waals, as well as an effective non-relativistic approximation to model meson-exchange interactions between nucleons. The model is consistent with experimental values of saturation density and binding energy of nuclear matter in the domain of typical densities for neutron stars.

The experimental line shapes available in the B$ \bar {B} $*, B*$ \bar {B} $*, hb(1P)π and hb(2P)π channels are analysed using a theoretical EFT-based framework manifestly consistent with unitarity and analyticity. The line shapes are calculated using a system of coupled channel integral equations with the potential consisting of the one-pion and one-eta meson exchange interactions from the lightest Goldstone boson octet as well as of several contact terms at leading and subleading orders which are adjusted to minimise the overall chi squared. The pole positions of the Zb(10610) and Zb(10650) are extracted for the best fits corresponding to χ2/d.o.f. of the order of one.

A two-component model is developed for the intermediate-range NN interaction based on a new mechanism with an intermediate symmetric six-quark bag "dressed" by σ and other fields. To calculate the transition amplitude, the microscopic six-quark shell-model in combination with the 3P0-quark pion production mechanism is used. As a result, an effective energy-dependent NN interaction is constructed. The new quark–meson model for the NN interaction has been demonstrated to result in a new type of NN tensor force at intermediate ranges, which is crucially important for the treatment of tensor mixing at intermediate energies. The suggested model is able to describe NN phase shifts in a broad energy range from low energy up to 1 GeV, and the deuteron structure. The generalization of the model results in new spin-orbit 2N and 3N forces and new meson-exchange currents induced by intermediate dressed bag components, and also in the enhancement of a collective σ-field in nuclei.
