The Given

The paper considers the results of the experimental study of the reinforced concrete beams strengthened by carbon fiber reinforced plastics (the CFRP). Eight reinforced concrete beams of the 80x160 mm section and 1500 mm designed span have been manufactured and tested. The influence of the number of the CFRP layers (strengthening power) on bearing capacity and rigidity under the static loading of beams in the thirds of the span has been studied. The results obtained indicate the increase in bearing capacity of the reinforced beams from 24% up to 55% and the increase in rigidity by 45% for the commonly adopted limiting state, i.e. achieving ultimate deformations in concrete of the compressed zone). The paper underlines the need for using anchor devices in the form of U-shaped binders to ensure the efficiency of the given method of strengthening.

Through pseudo static test on three pieces of fiber reinforced plastics (FRP) transfer beam supported frame with three different reinforcement form, reinforcement ratio and the number of root reinforcement ,which are subjected to the vertical load and horizontal low cycle reciprocating load, the specimen fracture development law, yield mechanism, failure pattern, and bearing capacity, ductility, hysteresis characteristics and seismic performance are analyzed. The test results show that: yield mechanism and failure pattern of transfer beam supported frame equipped with fiber reinforced plastics reinforced bars are reasonable. The bearing capacity and deformation performance of transfer beam supported frame with top and bottom longitudinal bar replaced by FRP bars and symmetrical reinforced box are better than that of single upper replacement for FRP and lower replacement for FRP. The ductility performance of transfer beam supported frame equipped with fiber reinforced plastics bars is good, hysteresis curve is full, and have good seismic performance.

Timber structure is the mainstream method of ancient Chinese architecture. However due to the effect of weathering and long history, it was badly damaged. Therefore, the protective repairing is imminent. The traditional reinforcement method of pier columns strengthened with iron sheet presents unsatisfactory performance in recovering the bearing capacity, and the study on Carbon Fibre Reinforced Plastics (CFRP) material applying in strengthening pier column is relatively lacking. This paper studied the mechanical properties of 20 timber columns, 17 of which used the CFRP for reinforcement, and one specimen is strengthened with iron sheet. With the maximum bearing capacity of reinforcement columns with CFRP recovering up to 103.22%, the research proves reasonable arrangement of CFRP hoops and suitable strengthening quantity of CFRP could get commendable reinforcement results. Finally, considering the effect of the pier type on the bearing capacity of pier columns, this paper puts forward a more accurate and universal formula compared to Su model, which provides theoretical foundation for restoration projects of ancient architecture.

Glass fiber reinforced plastics are widely used in civil engineering because of their advantages such as light weight, high strength, good pollution resistance, and corrosion resistance. This study investigated the buckling bearing capacity, failure characteristics, and slenderness ratios of GFRP solid bars with circular cross-sections subjected to axial compression. A total of 18 specimens were categorized into six groups. The slenderness ratios ranged from 57 to 123. It was found from experiments that the instability mode of the specimens was extreme point instability, and a bearing capacity platform phenomenon was observed when overall lateral instability occurred. The failure mode was axial and transverse tearing failure of the material in the middle of the specimen. During buckling, the tensile side was transformed from the compression of the resin matrix to tension in the fibers. The elastic modulus of glass fiber was much lower than that of the resin matrix. After tension occurred, increased deformation led to a rapid increase in lateral bending, which resulted in the phenomenon of the bearing platform. At ultimate deformation, brittle failure of the specimen occurred. The buckling load of the specimen decreased sharply with an increase in the slenderness ratio, and stress ratios decreased from 34.95% to 6.73%. It is suggested that the slenderness ratio not exceed 80. Finally, based on experimental results, a practical method for calculating the stable bearing capacity of solid GFRP poles is proposed.

Study of fiber reinforced plastics (i.e. CFRP, BFRP and AFRP) for rectangular beams reinforcement effect, using the FRP were 90o vertically and 45o slantingly parceled 10 rectangular timber beams shear performance, recorded specimen failure process. This paper analyzes the different FRP reinforcement plies, different reinforcement on beam properties of specimen, failure mode, bearing capacity, load-deflection relationship and strain distribution. The results showed that: FRP changed beams brittle failure mode, improve the beam bending, shear performance, ultimate bearing capacity increased by 28.2%~55.1%, the stiffness of the specimen and also improved ductility. In addition, its more effective to paste the FRP sheets vertically than slantingly with the angle of 45°. Using FRP strengthening beams the performance of the method is effective, the method can significantly improve the performance of wood. To improve the utilization efficiency of wood, expand the application range of timber provides useful reference.

Based on the research of the new kind of glass fiber reinforced plastics based modified unsaturated polyester (MUPR-FRP). This paper presents the result of the numerical evaluation of bearing behavior of the MUPR-FRP strengthening frame members. The MUPR-FRP strengthening members were modeled using the nonlinear finite element software ANSYS and the load deflection behavior and ultimate capacity were evaluated numerically. For the FE model, members were modeled using Tsai-Wu with tension cut-off failure criterion. The numerical results and the bearing capacity research indicated that the stress of new MUPR-FRP strengthening frame members was less than the load bearing strength and the deformation could satisfy some requirements in use.
