Excess volumes VE, excess viscosities ηE, and excess free energies of activation of flow G*E of binary mixtures of 2-chloro-2-methylpropane with isomeric butanols have been calculated from experimental measurements of density and viscosity at 298.15 K. The results are correlated by means of a Redlich–Kister type equation and explained in terms of molecular interactions.

Densities and viscosities were determined for the 2-propanol + methylacetate + dichloromethane system at 298.15 K. From the experimental results, molar excess volumes and excess viscosities were calculated. Different expressions exist in the literature to predict these excess properties from the binary mixtures. The empirical correlation of Tsao–Smith and Toop is the best for this system.

Excess volumes of mixtures of 1-propanol +, 1-butanol +, 1-pentanol +, and 1-hexanol + diethylketone have been measured at 303.15 and 313.15 K. Of the four mixtures included here 1-propanol + diethylketone shows an inversion in sign in VE at 313.15 K. VE becomes more positive with increase in temperature.
