A strain of Uromyces Polygoni (Pers.) Fuckel collected on Polygonum aviculare L. at Winnipeg was found to be homothallic. Attempts to infect P. erectum L. and P. neglectum Besser with sporidia, aeciospores, and urediospores of this rust were unsuccessful. Of the sporidial infections on P. aviculare, whether originating from a single sporidium or from two or more sporidia, most produced aecia only, but some produced uredia only, and a few produced aecia and uredia in association. Pycnia were not visible in any of the sporidial infections when examined with a hand lens but, in microtome sections cut from infections that had developed aecia, a few pycnia containing pycniospores were observed. No flexuous hyphae and periphyses were seen in these pycnia.

Abstract Introduction: This article examines the first level of the European higher education system, namely the short-cycle higher education trainings related to the ISCED 5 whose Hungarian characteristics, and its historical changes were described. Methods: We examined participation rates among OECD countries. As there are large differences in the short-cycle higher education trainings in Europe, we have relied on data that makes the different systems comparable. Results and discussion: The interpretation, definition and practical orientation of the trainings varies from country to country, we presented the Hungarian form in connection with the results of international comparative studies and data. To understand the role of trainings, it is essential to get to know their history, especially because short-term higher educational trainings were transformed in several European countries. Conclusions: Prioritising or effacing the social-political role of short-cycle higher education trainings depending on the political orientation of the government and as a part of this, prioritising the disadvantaged regions instead of the disadvantaged students.

Background: In Tunisia, water deficit and heat stress during the end of cycle are more frequent and causes significant yield losses. Selection of short cycle lines could be a good solution to escape the effect of heat and drought during the end of cycle. Furthermore, there is little published information on the effect of the sowing date on yield and its components in lentils. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of the sowing date on yield and its components of some lentil lines. The best productive and early lines will be selected and therefore proposed for registration in the official catalog of plant varieties. The availability of these varieties to farmers could increase lentil production. Methods: Sixteen genotypes of lentil out of which 14 were advanced lines and 2 were checks varieties were used in this study. The field experiment was conducted during the 2017-2018 cropping season at Kef research station located in a semi-arid zone in north western Tunisia. Genotypes were sown on December 15th, 2017 and February, 7th, 2018. Seventeen agro-morphological parameters were recorded. Result: Based on agro-morphological analysis, lentil lines exhibited considerable genetic variability. Among the tested lines, L3 line seem to be the earliest lines. It showed high yield as well in timely and late sown dates. This line deserves more attention to develop short-cycle and high yielding variety.

Let $G$ be a bridgeless multigraph with $m$ edges and $n_2$ vertices of degree two and let $cc(G)$ be the length of its shortest cycle cover. It is known that if $cc(G) < 1.4m$ in bridgeless graphs with $n_2 \le m/10$, then the Cycle Double Cover Conjecture holds. Fan (2017)  proved that if $n_2 = 0$, then $cc(G) < 1.6258m$ and $cc(G) < 1.6148m$ provided that $G$ is loopless; morever, if $n_2 \le m/30$, then $cc(G) < 1.6467m$. We show that for a bridgeless multigraph with $m$ edges and $n_2$ vertices of degree two, $cc(G) < 1.6148m + 0.0741n_2$. Therefore, if $n_2=0$, then $cc(G) < 1.6148m$ even if $G$ has loops; if $n_2 \le m/30$, then $cc(G) < 1.6173m$; and if $n_2 \le m/10$, then $cc(G) < 1.6223|E(G)|$. Our improvement is obtained by randomizing Fan's construction.
