The kinetics of reaction of C2H5OH with N2O behind shock waves is studied. The quantitative measurements of the time profiles of concentration of O atoms were carried out by the method of atomic resonance absorption spectroscopy (ARAS) using resonance vacuum-ultraviolet line of O-atom at 130.5 nm. For the calibration of absorption intensity of oxygen atoms depending on its concentration, the special series of experiments in the mixture containing different amounts of N2O in Ar was carried out at T = 2100 ± 50 K when molecule of N2O is completely dissociated. An experimental study of the appearance and consumption of oxygen atoms during the reaction of ethanol with oxygen in mixture 10 ppm N2O + (10 ... 0.1) ppm C2H5OH + Ar at temperatures of 16002300 K and pressures of 200-300 kPa have been carried out. A kinetic analysis of obtained data was performed using the Chemkin package.

Abstract Nitric oxide (NO) is one of the most crucial products in the plasma-based nitrogen fixation process. In this work, in-situ measurements were performed for quantifying the NO synthesis spatially in a warm air glow discharge, through the method of Mid-infrared quantum cascade laser absorption spectroscopy (QCL-AS). Two ro-vibrational transitions at 1900.076 cm-1 and 1900.517 cm-1 of the ground-state NO(X) were probed sensitively by the help of the wavelength modulation spectroscopy (WMS) approach to increase the signal/noise (S/N) level. The results show a decline trend of NO synthesis rate along the discharge channel from the cathode to the anode. However, from the point of energy efficiency, the cathode region is of significantly low energy efficiency of NO production. Severe disproportionality was found for the high energy consumption but low NO production in the region of cathode area, compared to that in the positive column zone. Further analysis demonstrates the high energy cost of NO production in the cathode region, is ascribed to the extremely high reduced electric field E/N therein not selectively preferable for the processes of vibrational excitation or dissociation of N2 and O2 molecules. This drags down the overall energy efficiency of NO synthesis by this typical warm air glow discharge, particularly for the ones with short electrode gaps. Limitations of further improving the energy cost of NO synthesis by variations of the discharge operation conditions, such as discharge current or airflow rate, imply other effective manners able to tune the energy delivery selectively to the NO formation process, are sorely needed.

We present results of theoretical and experimental study of collisional relaxation of fast electrons energy in gas. The dependence on the gas pressure p and electron energy ε of the mean pass Λ of fast electrons injected into a gas being sufficient to spend on ionization all their initial energy ε has been calculated. It was found that Λ is directly proportional to ε2 and inversely proportional to the gas pressure. To sustain glow discharge with electrostatic confinement of fast electrons, Λ should be less than the mean way to the anode of emitted by the cathode electrons.

Results of an experimental study of a coaxial exciplex lamp pumped by glow discharge are presented. An average power of radiation in the wavelength region below 250 nm and as high as about 130 W has been achieved. Efficiency of the excilamp operation based on input power of 14% was demonstrated. The possibility of applications of this excilamp is discussed.
