The two lapped surfaces whose separation defines the length of a good end-gauge or block-gauge generally approach a degree of optical flatness and parallelism sufficient for their use in interferometry. If, therefore, such a gauge is supported between the semi-transparent mirrors of a Fabry-Perot étalon of greater length than the gauge, with its surfaces parallel to the mirrors, the gauge may be standardised in terms of light waves by the methods usually applied to Fabry-Perot étalons. In fig. 1 L is the optical separation of the étalon mirrors, l 1 and l 2 are respectively the optical separations of a gauge surface and an adjacent étalon mirror at each end of the figure, and O is the optical length of the gauge: therefore O = L — ( l 1 + l 2 ), (1) L is measured either directly or indirectly in terms of light waves, the choice depending upon the magnitude of L, while both l 1 and l 2 are measured directly in terms of light waves by observation of the reflected system of circular interference fringes; thus O may be obtained in terms of light waves.

PT. X bergerak dalam industri manufuktur yang memproduksi komponen otomotif yang  salah satu prosesnya adalah pembuatan bearing. Saat ini, persaingan dalam dunia bisnis semakin ketat. Situasi ini membuat organisasi untuk memperbaiki diri dengan penurunan waktu set-up supaya dapat menghilangkan pemborosan sehingga peningkatan efektifitas dapat dicapai. Untuk melakukan penurunan waktu set-up dalam penelitian ini menggunakan metode Single Minute Exchange of Dies (SMED). SMED adalah salah satu metoda improvement dari Lean Manufacturing yang digunakan untuk mempercepat waktu yang dibutuhkan untuk melakukan setup pergantian dari memproduksi satu jenis produk ke model produk lainnya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui waktu Set up, serta mengetahui cara memperbaiki dan menurunkan waktu set up. Setelah dilakukan penelitian diketahui total waktu set up atau change over serta dilakukan perbaikan pada tiga titik yakni memindakan enam aktivitas internal menjadi aktivitas eksernal yang aktivitasnya dipersingkat, mengganti cara kerja setting/pengencangan baut dari cara manual ke alat bantu pengencangan dengan bantuan tekanan udara (pneumatic), dan mengganti cara kerja setting/penyetelan manual menjadi penyetelan dengan mengunakan block gauge. Secara keseluruhan terjadi penurunan waktu set up yang signifikan. Dengan demikian terjadi peningkatan efektifitas dengan menghilangkan pemborosan waktu set up sehinga terjadi peningkatan jumlah produksi per jam.

A systematic study of a modified drafting system based on the ring spinning frame, which is called the SDS (soft drafting system), is reported in this article to raise yarn quality. Two parts of an experiment were conducted to investigate differences between the conventional and modified drafting systems by spinning three kinds of yarns (in part I) and the effects of process parameters (block gauge, pressure on the front rollers and break draft) on the SDS by using response surface methodology (RSM) to spin 18.2 tex cotton yarn (in part II). The results show that the SDS can significantly improve yarn evenness and reduce yarn imperfections of thick places by +35% and +50%, respectively, and neps by +140% per km. In addition, it is noted that the three parameters are all statistically significant for the SDS to spin yarns, while interactions between them are not. More importantly, RSM predicted a minimum CVm% of 13.95% under the optimum conditions of 1.75 mm, 190 N and 1.21 for the block gauge, pressure on the front rollers and break draft, respectively, which is very close to the conditions of the practical spinning test.
