Researchers around the world are applying the recently revised Portrait Value Questionnaire (PVQ-RR) to measure the 19 values in Schwartz’s refined values theory. We assessed the internal reliability, circular structure, measurement model, and measurement invariance of values measured by this questionnaire across 49 cultural groups ( N = 53,472) and 32 language versions. The PVQ-RR reliably measured 15 of the 19 values in the vast majority of groups and two others in most groups. The fit of the theory-based measurement models supported the differentiation of almost all values in every cultural group. Almost all values were measured invariantly across groups at the configural and metric level. A multidimensional scaling analysis revealed that the PVQ-RR perfectly reproduced the theorized order of the 19 values around the circle across groups. The current study established the PVQ-RR as a sound instrument to measure and to compare the hierarchies and correlates of values across cultures.

A refined beam theory that takes the thickness-stretching into account is presented in this study for the bending vibratory behavior analysis of thick functionally graded (FG) beams. In this theory, the number of unknowns is reduced to four instead of five in the other approaches. Transverse displacement is expressed through a hyperbolic function and subdivided into bending, shear, and thickness-stretching components. The number of unknowns is reduced, which involves a decrease in the number of the governing equation. The boundary conditions at the top and bottom FG beam faces are satisfied without any shear correction factor. According to a distribution law, effective characteristics of FG beam material change continuously in the thickness direction depending on the constituent’s volume proportion. Equations of motion are obtained from Hamilton’s principle and are solved by assuming the Navier’s solution type, for the case of a supported FG beam that is transversely loaded. The numerical results obtained are exposed and analyzed in detail to verify the validity of the current theory and prove the influence of the material composition, geometry, and shear deformation on the vibratory responses of FG beams, showing the impact of normal deformation on these responses which is neglected in most of the beam theories. The obtained results are compared with those predicted by other beam theories. It can be concluded that the present theory is not only accurate but also simple in predicting the bending and free vibration responses of FG beams.

A refined theory of axisymmetric cylinder in one-dimensional (1D) hexagonal quasicrystals (QCs) is analyzed. Based on elastic theory with 1D hexagonal QCs, the refined theory of axisymmetric cylinder is derived by using general solution of 1D hexagonal QCs and Lur’e method without ad hoc assumptions. At first, expressions were obtained for all the phonon and phason displacements and stress components in term of the three functions with single independent variable. Based on the boundary conditions, the refined equation for the cylinder is derived directly. And the approximate equation is accurate up to the second-order terms with respect to radius of circular cylinder.

This study examines the role of ethnic minorities’ values in preferences for different acculturation strategies. We used Berry’s bidimensional model of acculturation, and Schwartz’s refined theory of 19 basic values. We hypothesized that individual values associate with acculturation preferences of ethnic minorities’. The sample consisted of two groups of adolescents, Russians and Poles, aged from 15 to 21 years old (N = 298). Using k-means clustering we assigned participants in four acculturation clusters: in- tegration, assimilation, marginalization, and separation. Profiles, which correspond to the four Schwartz higher-order values across clusters and groups, were compared through ANOVA measures. The analysis has shown that participants in the assimilation cluster scored significantly higher on Self-Enhancement than participants in the integration cluster.
