Analysis had been carried out, based on the three-dimensional transient viscous turbulent calculation of a Francis turbine full flow field, the complete cavitations model and the two-phase mixture flow model were combined during the calculation, more accurate numerical solution had been obtained. According to the simulation results, the site and extent of cavitations in the turbine flow were reflected within the specific conditions, and were more consistent with the cavitations phenomenon observed in the model experiment, also provided a reference for the more in-depth research.

Farmers come across many materials which when being handled generate dust clouds. Even with low concentration these might pose risk of explosion and can carry dangerous microorganisms. To broaden the knowledge about fine dust particles sedimentation and analyze process of particles becoming air-borne, a tunnel air cleaner was designed. Based on the experiment, a CFX simulation was performed using the Eulerian approach and the CFX12.1 software. Presented model is a stedy state two-phase analysis of dust sedimentation. The results show mechanism of dust dispertion over large distance, such as regions of vorticity that seem to be main motor. Presented analysis emphasizes how easily small particles can become resuspended in the air and carried over distance. Acquired knowledge can be applied for safety regulation in many branches of agriculture.

The capability of the OpenFoam software to model slamming where air is entrapped between the free surface and the structure is investigated. The test case studied is a previously studied phenomenon, where an air pocket is entrapped between the free surface and the upper corner of a rectangular tank during sloshing. The air is entrapped due to the shape of the wave approaching the roof. The air pocket is compressed and starts to oscillate. The oscillations resemble the free oscillations of a mass spring system. OpenFoam results are compared with experiments and a numerical method based on a boundary element method (BEM) both of which are available from the previous study. In this work a compressible VOF (Volume Of Fluid) Eulerian two-phase mixture flow solver called compressible InterFoam from OpenFOAM package is used to perform the simulations. The sensitivity of the results to numerical parameters is addressed.

Established two-dimensional axisymmetric staggered tooth shape labyrinth seal grid model by GAMBIT software, simulated oil-air two-phase mixture flow field within labyrinth seal by fluent software, confirmed the best grid size of numerical calculation, studied the seal mechanism and influence of gap width variation on the leakage. The results show that when fluid flows through the narrow clearance, its velocity increases and pressure decreases. The optimized clearance width within 0.5mm to 1.0mm is preferable.
