The Myristicaceae is a member of the early diverging angiosperm order Magnoliales; however, the family is poorly represented by fossil collections. We describe Virola dominicana sp. nov. (Myristicaceae), the first record of fossilized Myristicaceae flowers, from mid-Tertiary (45–15 million years ago) Dominican amber. The description is based on 24 male flowers in 17 pieces of amber, thus providing some indication of intraspecific variation, including a two-tepaled flower. Diagnostic characters of the new species are the long-simple or few-branched trichomes on the perianth margins, the small pollen grains, and a short staminal column. These fossils also show co-occurring insects, some of which could be Virola pollinators. It is speculated that V. dominicana disappeared from Hispaniola during the Pliocene–Pleistocene cooling events leaving no native members of the Myristicaceae in this region today. Additionally, these fossils demonstrate that Myristicaceae was present in the Western Hemisphere during the mid-Tertiary.

The seventh Thai species of Bryocyclops Kiefer, 1927 – Bryocyclops jayabhumisp. nov. – was found in a karst cave in the Chaiyaphum Province of north-eastern Thailand. The new species differs from all previously-known species by the absence of an inner seta on the proximal endopod of the first four swimming legs. Bryocyclops jayabhumisp. nov. is most similar to B. maholarnensis Watiroyram, Brancelj & Sanoamuang, 2015 – the monotypic species of Group VII, which was previously described from Thailand. However, the new species differs from B. maholarnensis by having the following characteristics: i) posterior margin of urosomites serrated; ii) anal operculum triangular with acute-tip; iii) P1–P4Enp-1 without an inner seta; iv) armature on the female P2–P3Enp-2 and P4Enp; v) a transformed spine on the male P3Enp-2. In this study, the generic affinity of the genus Bryocyclops Kiefer, 1927 is discussed and redefined, based on the available literature concerning its principle morphology to fill the present knowledge gap about the characteristics of the genus.

In recent decades, major advances in the systematics of the Western Hemisphere genus Paracloeodes Day have been made in South America. Despite the taxonomic progress, uncertainties in identification remain due to the morphological similarities among some nymphs and due to the general lack of knowledge of the imago stages (only 4 of 20 are described from throughout the range of the genus). This study addresses these impediments in part through description of the male imagoes of six species (P. atroari Nieto & Salles, P. binodulus Lugo-Ortiz & McCafferty, P. ibicui Lugo-Ortiz & McCafferty, P. pacawara Nieto & Salles, P. peri Nieto & Salles, P. waimiri Nieto & Salles), description of two new species based on morphologically distinct nymphs (P. aristotelesi sp. n. and P. carolinae sp. n.), description of one new species based on morphologically distinct nymph and male imago (P. prismatobranchus sp. n.); redescription of three species based on type material (P. ibicui Lugo-Ortiz & McCafferty, P. leptobranchus Lugo-Ortiz & McCafferty and P. eurybranchus Lugo-Ortiz & McCafferty); proposal of one new synonym based on morphological analyses of specimens from Bolivia, Brazil and Uruguay, including type specimens (P. pacawara = P. morellii Emmerich & Nieto); and the presentation of a new key to identify nymphs from South America to the species level.

Trichomyia pintoi sp. nov. is described and illustrated from male specimens collected from the Atlantic Forest, southeastern Brazil. T. pintoi is grouped with the globally distributed Trichomyia that have 3 palpus segments. It is easily distinguished by the 8 strong spines inserted in the distal third of the gonocoxite. A checklist of described Western Hemisphere Trichomyia species is provided.

Abstract A new species of the cyclopoid copepod genus Paramacrochiron, P. tridentatum, which is parasitic on the rhizostome medusa, Versuriga anadyoneme (Maas, 1903), is described from Vietnam. This is the tenth species within the genus. The new species is distinguishable from other congeners by the combination of the following features: (1) female second maxillipedal segment with 3 acutely pointed processes terminally; (2) female leg 4 endopod as long as or slightly longer than exopod; (3) male maxilliped with a small, acutely pointed process at subterminal corner of the first segment and a row of relatively coarse spinules along the inner margin of the second segment. The present study most probably implies a high species diversity of Paramacrochiron in the tropical and subtropical waters of the Indo-West Pacific region.
