The effect of roll deformation on separating forces in cold strip rolling is studied. The deformed roll shape is determined by a two dimensional finite element routine. The results are then incorporated in an analysis of the mechanics of rolling. The technique consists of assembling individual slabs bounded by planes passing through nodal points on the arc of contact—for each of which an exact solution for the roll pressure is obtained. Comparison to the solution of Orowan’s equations shows that the present technique is reasonably accurate. Comparison to data from a preliminary set of experiments shows that the technique deserves further investigation.

Taken hot tandem mill as research object, based on complete flatness control theary, in order to improve flatness control technology, an advanced strip flatness forecast and simulation system for hot tandem mill is developed through theoretical analysis, mathematical modeling, computer simulation and industrial validation. The simulation system’s outputs include flatness, on-load roll gap, rolling force distribution, contact pressure between rolls, strip’s temperature evolution, thermal roll shape and roll wear shape, which can be applied to mill type selection, flatness control performance analysis, preset control, roll shape optimization, virtual rolling, and so on. The simulation system can provide research and development platform for flatness control technology’ improvement and independent innovation, and has important significance to improve the flatness control level of hot tandem mill.

The straightener roll should be in contact with the tube or bar in line during the working process. The traditional calculation method using roll-shape curve equation was extremely complex, so this paper presents a new method of determining roll-shape curvature in the condition of the tube or bar contacted with roller in line. By comparison, this calculation method is simple and easy. Moreover, this method guarantees the quality of product with the required accuracy. This method presents a new way in straightener roller design.
