Lead black as an antifriction additive for lubricating greases

The use of zinc phosphate tungstate additive to improve the tribotechnical characteristics of "ЦИАТИМ-201" and "ЛЗ-ЦНИИ" greases is considered. It is established that the introduction of the 2Zn(PO3)2•4WO3 additive into the dispersion medium of these lubricants improves the tribotechnical properties, reducing the operating parameters. Магнитные сепараторы с применением ферромагнитной насадки, имеющими высокие градиенты магнитного поля в рабочем пространстве, находят применение для очистки пылегазовых потоков и суспензий от магнитных примесей и являются достаточно экономичными в промышленных условиях. Исследованы полупромышленные сепараторы периодического и непрерывного действия с щаровой ферромагнитной насадкой для очистки антифрикционной присадки «Деста» от магнитных примесей. Для исключения потерь времени на промывку насадки, обеспечения постоянной производительности по суспензии и качества очистки суспензий авторами разработана конструкция и предложен метод расчета основных параметров сепаратора непрерывного действия. Проведены экспериментальные исследования работы сепараторов периодического и непрерывного действия одинаковых габаритов рабочего пространства и производительностей по очищаемой суспензии, которые показали неоспоримые преимущества сепаратора непрерывного действия. Magnetic separators with the use of a ferromagnetic nozzle, having high gradients of the magnetic field in the working space, are used for cleaning dust and gas flows and suspensions from magnetic impurities and are quite economical in industrial conditions. Semi-industrial separators of periodic and continuous action with ferromagnetic ball nozzle for cleaning the antifriction additive "Desta" from magnetic impurities are studied. To eliminate the loss of time for flushing the ferromagnetic ball nozzle, to ensure constant suspension performance and the quality of cleaning suspensions, the authors have developed a design and proposed a method for calculating the main parameters of a continuous separator. Experimental studies of the operation of separators of periodic and continuous action of the same dimensions of the working space and the performance of the cleaned suspension were carried out, which showed the undeniable advantages of a continuous separator.

To determine eff ectiveness and feasibility of using an antifriction additive, the authors carried out comparative bench tests of an internal combustion engine VAZ-11194 No. 000094 of environmental class 5, with and without using an antifriction additive to Lukoil Genesis 5W-30 oil. The studies were carried out in accordance with GOST 14846 “Automotive Engines, Bench Test Methods”, UN Regulation No. 49 (emissions of carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons, nitrogen oxides with exhaust gases) and UN Regulation No.85 (performance indicators). During the tests, harmful substances with exhaust gases (CO, CH, NOx) emissions,engine power indicators and fuel consumption were evaluated. The tests were carried out according to presented method after 5, 50 and 100 hours of engine operation. The test results recorded an increase in power by 4.1%, in engine torque by 3.5…4.0% with a decrease in specifi c fuel consumption by 6…7% after 100 hours of engine operation with the use of an antifriction additive in engine oil. During the test period, harmful substances concentration in engine exhaust gases decreased: CO to 21.6%, CH to 18.3%, and NOx to 27.6%. A conclusion has been formulated on the eff ectiveness of using antifriction additives in terms of improving environmental, economic and power indicators of an internal combustion engine

Antiwear / antifriction additives enhance the ability of lubricant to withstand mechanical stresses of interacting surfaces under boundary lubrication conditions. Majority of the lubricants and additives currently used are petroleum based that are toxic to environment, making it increasingly difficult for safe and easy disposal. There has been an increasing demand for “green” lubricants and lubricant additives in recent years due to concerns about lubricants lost to the environment and increasingly strict government regulations controlling their use.

Abstract Calcium carbonate powder comprising uniform nanoparticles of novel morphology was synthesized under extensively optimized trial parameters. The as-prepared ultrafine rod shape CaCO3 particles after characterizations were used as an antiwear/antifriction additive in commercial lithium grease (CLG) of different specifications. The effect of the added particles on the antifriction and antiwear properties of the blended commercial greases was explored by using a ball-on-disk tribometer. The observed data were compared with the additized grease having commercially available CaCO3 powder. Results exposed that uniformity in particle size and shape is a key factor for the improvement of tribological properties and reproducibility of the experimental results. Therefore, the as-prepared monodispersed rod shapes CaCO3 particles as additives considerably improved the tribological properties of the CLG as compared with the irregular particles of the commercial calcium carbonate. These blends showed the best results at the optimum amount of 3 wt% of the added CaCO3 particles. Among the three selected greases, the additized Momin grease exhibited best antiwear/antifriction performance as compared with the additized Awami and Sinopec greases.
