ABSTRACTMinor additions (0.05-0.2 wt.%) of sodium chloride, hexachloroethane and elemental sulphur to commercial white iron melts have been found to enhance the kinetics of first stage graphitisation during subsequent annealing of white iron samples. The optimum dose of sodium chloride and hexachloroethane addition is around 0.1%. Yield strength and ductility of annealed test bars treated with NaCl or C2Cl6 compare favourably with those of untreated test bars. Sulphur treatment causes slight deterioration in mechanical properties. Fully grown nodules in both treated and untreated samples appear porous under SEM. Possible mechanisms of acceleration of graphitisation in the treated samples have been suggested.

We have investigated athermal and isothermal martensitic transformations (typical displacive transformations) in Fe–Ni, Fe–Ni–Cr, and Ni-Co-Mn-In alloys under magnetic fields and hydrostatic pressures in order to understand the time-dependent nature of martensitic transformation, that is, the kinetics of martensitic transformation. We have confirmed that the two transformation processes are closely related to each other, that is, the athermal process changes to the isothermal process and the isothermal process changes to the athermal one under a hydrostatic pressure or a magnetic field. These findings can be explained by the phenomenological theory, which gives a unified explanation for the two transformation processes previously proposed by our group.

In the paper is shown the connection of two toolboxes in an Ansys Workbench solution for induction heating. In Ansys Workbench, Maxwell electromagnetism programs and Fluent have been linked. In Maxwell, a simulation of electromagnetic induction was performed, where data on the magnetic field distribution in the heated material was obtained and then transformed into the Fluent program in which the induction heating simulation was performed.
