PurposeThe paper aims to propose the development of an eco product to replace the traditional cotton swab that meets the expected needs, besides having a bias based on sustainability and economic viability.Design/methodology/approachThe applied nature article opted for an exploratory and descriptive study, with the objective of seeking a solution to a real problem: to reduce the environmental impact in the disposal of cotton swabs. To test this hypothesis, the exploratory stage evaluated the literature on the principles of eco design and environmental marketing to understand market viability and environmental impacts. The descriptive phase presented a comparative analysis between the original product and the proposed one, in terms of production processes and impacts of the product life cycle. Thus, an alternative product was conceived and validated applying the life cycle analysis (LCA).FindingsThe paper provides a comparative analysis between the eco product and the traditional product in order to validate the hypothesis that the new proposal reduces the environmental impact. It was found that both productive processes have similar impacts; however, the raw material of the proposed eco product demonstrated a significant reduction in the impact caused on the environment, considering cradle to cradle analysis.Originality/valueThis paper conceives an eco product as an alternative to traditional cotton swab, presenting an innovative potential in line with worldwide sustainability trends.

The article considers the economic results of 2020. The key events of the country’s economic life related to the global coronavirus pandemic are described. The difficulties of the Russian economic situation in 2020–2021 are caused not only by the pandemic, but also by the persistence of problems of the raw material economy, as well as shortcomings of state and corporate governance. The tasks and directions of the national plan for economic recovery in 2021 are described. It emphasizes the importance of addressing not only the current problems of life support, but also focusing on strategic national goals to ensure economic sustainability. In this regard, the main principles of improving the quality of public administration are considered. A model for improving strategic planning at the macro level with active involvement of leading enterprises in the process is proposed. The article describes the main directions of diversification of the domestic economy, as well as the practice of implementing relevant industry strategies. The problem of formation of the national innovation system as a factor of ensuring the national security of the country remains relevant.

The site of Grotte de la Verpillière II, a rock shelter and corresponding cave tunnel, is situated in a cliff face of an Oxfordian massive, around 10 km West of Chalon-sur-Saône in Eastern France. The excavation at this site has recovered Middle Palaeolithic assemblages in three stratified sedimentological units. The richest of these assemblages derives from Geological Horizon (GH) 3 and is discussed here. It is preliminarily attributed to a Late Middle Palaeolithic context of OIS 3 to 4 using radiometric-dating techniques. The assemblage combines Levallois reduction, bifacial objects and diverse ‘opportunistic’ reduction strategies. The Levallois reduction shows a high level of raw-material economy in the use of raw pieces and blanks whose morphology is close to the shape of desired configured cores. Other reduction strategies show a wider range of approaches to blank production. Bifacial objects include but are not limited to Keilmesser with tranchet blows. The condition of objects from GH 3 range from unused raw pieces, tested raw pieces, configured and exhausted cores, correction and central flakes, as well as some heated objects, frost shards, and debris. The majority of raw materials derive from sources nearby, but were clearly transported to the site. Only some pieces show evidence for transport of up to 100 km from source to site. The presence of specific reduction strategies on bifacial objects and the existence of tranchet-blow modification provide support for the attribution of the assemblage to the Keilmessergruppen assemblages from Central Europe.

Russian economy is facing a difficult period characterized by economic crisis. In particular, industry became an evident of the necessity to change economic development model: the transition from raw material economy to industrial one. This requires economic reforms. At the present stage, economic reforms can be implemented, first, in the project format, and secondly, following the requirements of sustainable development concept. Project management as the theory, methodology and set of practical technologies has significantly strengthened its position in the modern management of economic entities. Project management proves own efficiency, also in the development and implementation of economic reforms. This raises the urgent issue of integration and integrated use of project management and sustainable development concept. Today, scholars and practitioners declare an importance of sustainability criteria implementation at the project level. Therefore, the aim of the study was to develop provisions for sustainable project management. Consequently, results of the study proposed: clarification of sustainable project management essence, interrelation of directions of sustainable development and functional areas of project management, conditions and prerequisites for the transition to sustainable project management, rationale for the transition to sustainable project management towards so-called “weak” sustainability.
