Development of the technologies simulating optical processes in an arbitrary dispersed medium is one of the important directions in the field of optical instrumentation and can provide computer simulation of the processes instead of using expensive equipment in physical experiments. The goal of the study is simulation of scattering of optical radiation by aerosol media using the finite element method to show a practical significance of the results of virtual experiments. We used the following initial conditions of the model: radius of a spherical particle of distilled water is 1 μm, wavelength of the incident optical radiation is 0.6328 μm, air is a medium surrounding the particle. An algorithm for implementation of the model by the finite element method is proposed. A subprogram has been developed which automates a virtual experiment for a group of particles to form their random arrangement in the model and possibility of changing their geometric shape and size within predetermined intervals. Model dependences of the radiation intensity on the scattering angle for single particle and groups of particles are presented. Simulation of the light transmission through a dispersed medium provides development of a given photosensor design and determination of the minimum number of photodetectors when measuring the parameters of the medium under study via analysis of the indicatrix of scattering by a group of particles.

A numerical model was made to establish the casting hardness for the magnesium alloys MCMgAl12Zn1, MCMgAl6Zn1, MCMgAl3Zn1 and MCMgAl9Zn1. Computer simulation of hardness was performed using the finite element method in ANSYS environment, and the hardness values were obtained by experiments based on the Rockwell method. The showed model fulfils the initial criteria, which provides with the basis for the assumption about its utility in establishing the casting hardness of the magnesium alloys MCMgAl12Zn1, MCMgAl6Zn1, MCMgAl3Zn1 and MCMgAl9Zn., using the finite element method within the framework of the ANSYS program. There is the correlation of the computer simulation results with the experimental outcomes. Nowadays the computer simulation is very well known, and it is based on the finite element method, what it makes possible to better comprehend the autonomy between the process parameters and selected optimal solution. The chance of applying faster and faster calculation machines and the formation of much software enables creating the more accurate models and more the adequate ones to reality.

When designing the axial joint pressing process, a relevant issue is the process parameters which directly influence the nature of the deformation of the housing, and, ultimately, on the formation of an all-in-one connection of a ball stud with a joint housing. These parameters are press force, punch displacement and matrix geometry. The quality of the all-in-one connection depends on a correct selection of the indicated parameters. If the axial joint insert is compressed evenly, the connection will be considered to be the most rational, that is the load will be distributed uniformly over the entire insert surface from the spherical surfaces of the ball stud and the deformed housing. In this way, the press must provide necessary force and displacement; the matrix geometry must provide the required shape of the deformed part of the housing. The all-in-one connection quality is evaluated by a number of operational characteristics of finished products, whose values must be located in intervals acceptable from the customer's point of view. Such characteristics include the following: ball stud rocking resistance torque, breakaway torque at ball stud rocking, axial spring travel and axial stiffness of the joint. In order to determine the specified parameters without many experiments on physical objects, a computer simulation model of the axial joint pressing process based on the finite element method was developed. Required press force, punch displacement and matrix geometry are determined by a computer simulation of the pressing process based on the finite element method. The accomplished experimental research led to the conclusion about acceptable repeatability of the results of the developed mathematical model and experimental data.

Abstract Blowout fractures most frequently involve the orbital floor. The contour of the orbit has been postulated as one of the factors responsible for this phenomenon, but only a few studies have been carried out. The present study was planned to determine the effect of the contour of the orbit when intraorbital pressure is raised to simulate the hydraulic mechanism of blowout fracture. The profile of the orbit was estimated from five dry human skulls, and the measurements were approximated to frame models. The deformation of these models by raised intraorbital pressure was calculated by computer simulation using the finite element method. In all ofthe orbital models, the deformation of the orbital floor was significantly greater than that of the roof. These findings verified that the orbital roof has a higher resistance than the floor against raised intraorbital pressure. We suspect that this resistance is due to the arched shape of the orbital roof, whereas the floor is rather flat.
