Abstract In selecting methods for determination of rubber to cord bond strength it is necessary to consider the factors which are subject to variation in the system— the type of cord, the composition of the vulcanized rubber, or the composition of the impregnant. The selection (composition) of the methods of assessment of bond strength was carried out in the present study while keeping the type of cord and the rubber compositions constant ; only the composition of the impregnant was varied. Up to the present there has been no single laboratory method for evaluating rubber to cord bond strength for the determination of the service quality of rubber-fabric structures. The bond strength in such a system is assessed in the majority of cases by the use of a series of methods. The existing methods may be systematized according to the nature of the deformation (static or dynamic), the nature of the specimen (with single thread of cord or with cord fabric) and so on. We adopted the following classification of methods: 1). Determination of bond strength of a single thread of cord with the rubber; 2). Determination of bond strength of rubber to fabric model specimens. Determination of bond strength of a single thread of cord with rubber is an exceptionally widely used type of testing in the rubber industry. It is based either on the principle of stripping of a single thread of cord from the rubber under pressure, or on the principle of pull-out of a thread of cord from a rubber specimen.

Magnetorheological rubber material is a kind of composite material of magneto elastic coupling with multi functions, which is composed of magnetic particles and the mixed rubber films with the magnetic properties of the material, but because of its mechanical properties has limited practical use, and nylon cloth which has the advantages of high strength, dimensional stability, can be the ideal framework of magnetorheological rubber. The results show that for the magnetorheological rubber made from the NR/SBR blend, the tensile strength of the magnetorheological rubber with the cord fabric can greatly improve, the tensile strength can reach 17.8MPa, but also can improve the shear modulus of magnetorheological rubber and zero field storage shear modulus.

Abstract Twenty-five years ago, a pneumatic tire for an automobile cost twenty-five dollars and gave service of about 3500 miles. Today a pneumatic tire costs only one-half as much and can be relied upon to give service of about 25,000 miles. These improvements are the result of various factors, such as the use of cord fabric, organic accelerators, antioxidants, and other carefully chosen raw materials. Among these latter, it is safe to say that carbon black is unquestionably the raw material which has contributed most of all to the increased mileage of pneumatic tires. Years ago when the reënforcing properties imparted to rubber by carbon black first became recognized, this product was furnished without any particular requirements other than freedom from impurities. Later, as the percentage of carbon black incorporated in rubber mixtures continued to increase, certain measures were taken to control the grit content. Ultimately, with the aim of furnishing the rubber industry with a product of the highest quality and greatest uniformity, the most important producers of carbon black, in coöperation with the laboratories of rubber factories, proceeded to develop a series of check tests and various other tests, which have led in turn to the development of the present-day specifications of carbon black.

AbstractThe traditional craft of marine launching rubber gasbag that made by hand laying cord fabric has the disadvantages of irregular reinforcing direction and discontinuity of cord, which leads to the limitation of bearing capacity of gasbag and poor reliability. Based on the analysis of the structure of the rubber gasbag and geodesic winding pattern used in marine launching, the winding process design and experiment of the fiber reinforced rubber gasbag are carried out to solve the problem. The numerical simulation of the wound rubber gasbag is established by the finite element software ABAQUS in order to study the geometrical and contact nonlinearity of the gasbag, and the nonlinear relationship of parameters in application process, and then compare the application performance with those of the traditional cord fabric placement molding. Finally, the winding pattern test and deformation simulation experiment are carried out to verify the fact that the reinforced rubber gasbag with glass fiber / polyurethane composite material has a higher bearing capacity compared with the traditional handmade rubber gasbag. Thus, it provides theoretical and experimental evidence for the winding process of rubber gasbag.

In the present study, an elastomeric nanocomposite was prepared by two roller mixing mill with the Natural Rubber (NR) and Nano Graphene Platelets (NGP). The Nylon 6.6 cord fabrics were laminated with the prepared NR/NGP nanocomposite layers. The NR/NGP composites and Nylon 6.6 cord fabric laminated nanocomposite plates were cured at 165 °C for 10 min under pressure. Nylon 6.6 fabric reinforced NR/NGP nanocomposites were electrically characterized under free and cyclic loading conditions. NGP addition to NR improved the electrical conductivity. Under cyclic loading produced nanocomposite and cord fabric layered plates showed periodical sensing behavior with same amplitude in each period.

Abstract A good bond, resistant to flexing, is afforded between rubber and rayon cord by the interposition of a mixed casein-rubber film. In a series of solutions in which the proportion of rubber solids was kept constant and the quantity of casein varied progressively, it was found that there was an optimum amount of casein for maximum adhesion. Taking into consideration also the handling of the solution and the stiffening of the cord, it would appear that for an adhesive with the usual total solids content of 15 to 20 per cent, the ratio of casein to rubber hydrocarbon should be approximately 1:6. When the rubber hydrocarbon is supplied by dispersed reclaim, the adhesion is a little higher than when latex is used. The most satisfactory solution from all points of view, however, contains approximately equal quantities of rubber hydrocarbon derived from the two sources. Wetting agents may be employed to improve the uniformity of application of the adhesive. The amount used must be very small, otherwise the adhesion is impaired. By dipping cord successively in casein and latex solutions and vice versa in the adhesive film, casein acts as a specific adhesive for rayon, whereas the rubber in the film gives the necessary affinity for the casing rubber which surrounds it. Treating a cord successively in a casein-rich mixture and then in a rubber-rich mixture appears to give a slightly better bond than the conventional treatment. The subsequent application of a rubber cement to a cord dipped in latex-reclaim-casein solution results in an improvement in the bond.
