AbstractStarting from disodium 5-cyanoisothiazoledithiolate som e new substituted derivatives of the tetrathiafulvalene and some metal 1,2-dithiolenes with at least an isothiazolo-ring have been prepared. From these com pounds a number of conductive cation radical salts have been obtained.

Our continued study of derivatives of the 7,7,8,8-tetracyanoquinodimethan anion–radical (TCNQ−•) has shown that the simple N-methylphenazinium salt (IIa) exhibits a volume electrical resistivity of 7 × 10−3 Ω cm and thus is the most highly electrically conductive organic compound known. In contrast, the N-ethyl analogue has a resistivity of 109 Ω cm. Electrical properties of pyrazinium, quinoxalinium, and phenazinium analogues, including phenazine-derived cation–radical salts of TCNQ−•, are discussed. Qualitative observations are made concerning the electron paramagnetic resonance of the N,N′-dimethyldihydrophenazinylium cation–radical.

The preparation and characterization of two π-cation radical derivatives of copper β-oxoporphyrins is described. [3,3,8,8,13,13,17,18-octaethyl-(3H,8H,13H)-porphine-2,7,12-trionato (2-)] copper π-cation radical, [ Cu (2,7,12-trioxoOEHP·)]+, and [3,3,8,8,12,13,17,18-octaethyl-(3H,8H)-porphine-2,7-dionato(2-)] copper π-cation radical, [ Cu (2,7-dioxoOEiBC·)]+, have been prepared and characterized by single-crystal X-ray determinations, UV/vis/NIR, and IR spectroscopies. Both molecules have modest distortion from the planarity and show monomeric units in the solid state. [ Cu (2,7-dioxoOEiBC·)]+ shows a concentration dependent near-IR band at 1410 nm.
