We report herein, the synthesis, and spectral and electrochemical characterization of a series of phthalocyaninato zinc complexes where two biomedically potential structures; crown ether and phthalocyanine moities were gathered on the same molecule. The effect of number of crown ether moieties on metal ion binding properties, as well as proton sensitivity were investigated by using electronic absorption and fluorescence emission spectra. Spectral behaviors of the zinc phthalocyanine complexes fused with one crown ether; Zn [ Pc (15 C 5)( C 6 H 13)6] and four crown ether; Zn [ Pc (15 C 5)4] in presence of Na + and K + ions were investigated into detail because of host-guest interactions of subjective ions with crown ether moieties, and compared with the crown ether free phthalocyanine; Zn [ Pc ( C 6 H 13)8].

AbstractAn efficient Knoevenagel route using green chemistry conditions was applied for the synthesis of halogen- and cyano- substituted pyridinevinylene compounds. Absorption and fluorescence emission spectra of these conjugated compounds were recorded and compared in order to evaluate the effect of substituents on the electronic properties of pyridinevinylene compounds. The substituents studied were terminal Cl and F, two or three aromatic rings, as well as a cyano group attached to a C=C double bond. The compounds synthesized are: (E)-2-(4-fluorostyryl)pyridine, (E)-2-(4-chlorostyryl)pyridine, (E)-4-(4-chlorostyryl)pyridine, 2,3-diphenylacrylonitrile, 3-phenyl-2-(pyridin-2-yl)acrylonitrile, 3-phenyl-2-(pyridin-3-yl)acrylonitrile, 2-phenyl-3-(pyridin-2-yl)acrylonitrile, 3,3′-(1,4-phenylene)bis(2-phenylacrylonitrile), 3,3′-(1,4-phenylene)bis(2-(pyridin-2-yl)acrylonitrile), and 3,3′-(1,4-phenylene)bis(2-(pyridin-3-yl)acrylonitrile). The solvent-free method used in this work allows obtaining each compound by controlling the reaction temperature. The compounds were characterized by infrared spectroscopy and 1H-NMR spectroscopy.

ABSTRACTFilms of AIN were grown on Si under vacuum pressure at 900°C and examined ex situ with infrared reflectance spectroscopy and microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, x-ray diffraction and rutherford backscattering spectroscopy. Collection of IR emission spectra for in situ characterization was successful and used to identify growth parameters during film growth.

Lectin histochemistry was used to perform in situ characterization of the glycoconjugates present in boar testis and epididymis. Thirteen horseradish peroxidase- or digoxigenin-labelled lectins were used in samples obtained from healthy fertile boars. The acrosomes of the spermatids were stained intensely by lectins with affinity for galactose and N-acetyl-galactosamine residues, these being soybean, peanut and Ricinus communis agglutinins. Sertoli cells were stained selectively by Maackia ammurensis agglutinin. The lamina propria of seminiferous tubules showed the most intense staining with fucose-binding lectins. The Golgi area and the apical part of the principal cells of the epididymis were stained intensely with many lectins and their distribution was similar in the three zones of the epididymis. On the basis of lectin affinity, both testis and epididymis appear to have N- and O-linked glycoconjugates. Spermatozoa from different epididymal regions showed different expression of terminal galactose and N-acetyl-galactosamine. Sialic acid (specifically alpha2,3 neuraminic-5 acid) was probably incorporated into spermatozoa along the extratesticular ducts. These findings indicate that the development and maturation of boar spermatozoa are accompanied by changes in glycoconjugates. As some lectins stain cellular or extracellular compartments specifically, these lectins could be useful markers in histopathological evaluation of diseases of boar testis and epididymis.
