Level I (neutral red uptake) and level II (cell adhesion and proliferation) in vitro cytotoxicity tests were used to evaluate the biocompatibility of newly-synthesised poly(ester-ether-ester) block copolymers to be used for the construction of vascular prostheses. The synthesis of these copolymers does not require the presence of added catalysts and results in high molecular mass materials with good tensile and mechanical properties. The results of the cytotoxicity tests suggest that the level of cytocompatibility of all the copolymers tested is high and very promising for their future use as biomaterials.
