goal of the present discourse analysis is to report on the initial results of a DFG project on communication in interdisciplinary projects. Based on a case study, the following questions were investigated: 1) at what times or phases of a project communication problems occur, 2) what kinds of problems occur as a result of knowledge asymmetries, and 3) which interactive and discourse roles do participants take on when facing such problems? Three main conclusions can be drawn from the findings; first, that linguistic-communicative problems occurring in interdisciplinary projects are not simply a result of attempts to find a “common language”, but are grounded in issues of contextual, methodological, organisitory, and socio-pragmatic agreements. Second, these communication problems arise during the initial, preparatory phases of a project, earlier than social scientific process models suggest, i. e. as early as the writing and submission of the project proposal, as opposed to when the project work actually begins. Third, that these problems, induced by the inevitable presence of knowledge asymmetries among participants, must be resolved not only through active and consistent meta-communication, but also through meta-meta-communication. Evidence for these findings was gathered by means of interviews with project participants in which they reflected on the phase of jointly writing their project proposal from the perspective of their respective disciplines.

A case study is reported of a subject who has used inspiratory speech (IS) for 6 years as a means of overcoming the communication problems of long-standing adductor spastic dysphonia (ASD). The subject was studied to confirm his use of IS, determine the mechanisms of its production, investigate its effects on ventilatory gas exchange, and confirm that it was perceptually preferable to ASD expiratory speech (ES). Results showed that the production and control of a high laryngeal resistance to airflow were necessary for usable IS. Voice quality was quantitatively and perceptually poor; however, the improved fluency and absence of phonatory spasm made IS the preferred speaking mode for both the listener and the speaker. Transcutaneous measurements of the partial pressures of oxygen and carbon dioxide in the subject's blood were made during extended speaking periods. These measurements indicated that ventilation was unchanged during IS, and that ventilation during ES was similar to the “hyperventilation” state of normal speakers. The reasons for the absence of phonatory spasm during IS are discussed, and the possibility of its use as a noninvasive management option for other ASD sufferers is addressed.

COVID-19 has been declared as pandemic by WHO. Indonesian government late to give official statement that made public believe in hoax, rumours, gossip, even propaganda that they got from social media and passed from one group to another. As we know, too much information or shortage of information could lead to confusing messages that eventually increase public distrust towards official statement. Consequently, people resort to social media as the only source of information. As a mass-self communication channel, the credibility of information from this source is problematic. Castell’s mass-self communication made this circle become infodemic that hamstring public trust to government. In this research, we do comparative case study on how countries (China and South Korea) tackle communication problems during the pandemic. This research is significant because it could be a reference model of crisis communication strategy when the country faces a pandemic Relying on mass media analysis and literature review, we find that China’s government uses power to control information circulation while South Korea’s generates public’s participation in social media. Indonesia as a democratic country could use this experience to gain public’s trust by doing Coomb’s SCCT for crisis situation. Doing this, Indonesia is expected to be more prepared to for the crisis communication in the future.Keywords: COVID-19, infodemic, crisis communication, case study ABSTRAKCOVID-19 telah dinyatakan sebagai pandemi oleh WHO. Akibatnya, masyarakat menggunakan media sosial sebagai satu-satunya sumber informasi. Sebagai saluran komunikasi massa-mandiri, kredibilitas informasi dari sumber ini bermasalah. Komunikasi massa yang dilakukan Castell membuat lingkaran ini menjadi infodemik yang melemahkan kepercayaan publik kepada pemerintah. Dalam penelitian ini, kami melakukan studi kasus komparatif tentang bagaimana negara-negara (China dan Korea Selatan) menangani masalah komunikasi selama pandemi. Penelitian ini penting karena dapat menjadi model referensi strategi komunikasi krisis ketika negara menghadapi pandemi Mengandalkan analisis media massa dan tinjauan pustaka, kami menemukan bahwa pemerintah China menggunakan kekuatan untuk mengontrol peredaran informasi sementara Korea Selatan menghasilkan partisipasi publik di media sosial. Pengalaman ini bisa dimanfaatkan Indonesia sebagai negara demokrasi untuk mendapatkan kepercayaan publik dengan melakukan SCCT Coomb untuk situasi krisis. Dengan begitu, Indonesia diharapkan lebih siap menghadapi krisis komunikasi di masa mendatang.Kata Kunci: COVID-19, infodemik, komunikasi krisis, studi kasus

Team communication challenges compound the complexity of healthcare environments. While there is a significant body of research on team interaction in surgical and operating room settings, there is limited research in more specialized use environments such as the electrophysiology (EP) lab where an interdisciplinary team supports the diagnostics and interventional correction of the heart’s electrical timing. This work proposes a novel framework to uncover and classify team communication pathways in complex healthcare environments via a case study of the EP lab. Designers of integrated medical systems should study the communication practices and communication barriers of intended users to drive better user needs and design inputs.

As the core of intelligent manufacturing, CPS has serious security issues, especially for the communication security of its terminal M2M. In this paper, blockchain technology is introduced to address such a security problem of communications between different types of machines in CPS. According to the principles of blockchain technology, we design a blockchain for secure M2M communications. As a communication system of M2M consists of public network areas, equipment areas and private areas, we design a sophisticated blockchain structure between the public area and private area. For validating our design, we take cotton spinning production as a case study to demonstrate our solution to M2M communication problems under the CPS framework.

Aim: The aim of this research is to determine the ways of communication between nurses and patients, the relevant problems, and expectations. Method: The research was carried out within the scope of qualitative research model and using the case study design. Observation and semi-structured interview methods were used in the study. In this context, interviews and observations were made with five nurses working in a university hospital clinic and five inpatients in December 2019. In the analysis of qualitative data obtained from observations and interviews, themes were created using the content analysis method. Results: The research was presented as findings on semi-structured interviews and observations together with introductory features. Findings obtained as a result of the interviews were analyzed as two main themes, three subthemes and codes under each subtheme. Conclusion: To establish a better communication as a result of the research; significant findings were obtained related to the issues of establishing mutual empathy, increasing the level of education, taking patient complaints seriously, increasing the number of employees by improving the technological equipment of institutions, ensuring coordination by creating an atmosphere of trust, nurses’ doing their job lovingly, gaining therapeutic communication skills, and especially explaining medical terms in a comprehensible manner.

This study aims to analyze village financial management in the special autonomy region, analyze the constraints that hinder village financial management, and analyze efforts to resolve obstacles in village financial management. This study is conducted on the apparatus of Kampung Srer. This study uses a qualitative method with a case study approach and obtains the data through in-depth interviews, documentation, and observation. The results show that the village financial management in the Kampung Srer is partly in accordance with Minister of Home Affairs Regulation (or Permendagri) Number 20 of 2018 concerning the village financial management. The obstacles that hinder the management of village finances in Kampung Srer are political constraints, human resource constraints, and communication problems.  Efforts made to resolve existing constraints in the management of village finances in Kampung Srer are that the village officials who are selected have the ability that is in accordance with the field of work. There is socialization from the district and district levels related to village financial management activities in the form of increasing the capacity of village officials. There needs to be good coordination for every element in the village community, among village officials, and assistants.

The present study carries out to investigate and identify the communication problems that affecting the Teaching / Learning process of ELT. It aims to help teachers and learners to know the cause of these problems and to use and practice (IPA) in English pronunciation. It also sheds light on the most common mistakes of English sounds in relation to their spellings. That the teacher’s knowledge of these errors makes him /her, able to avoid them. The researcher investigates the topic title: Challenges of teaching communication to Arab students. As a type of problems affecting the Teaching /Learning process of ELT. She follows an experimental design method to achieve this purpose. The subjects for the study were undergraduate students from University of Majmaah (Hotat Sudair College of Science and Humanities for girls). With the sample of two groups of fifty students of the same sex, standard, number, and degree of education. A case study in Hotat Sudair College for girls, to collect data from the subjects by observation through an oral test and statistical analysis. The study arrives at the following results: Only 13% of students care for segmental phonemes. Only 21% of students care for the correct pronunciation of words. Few learners use dictionaries to check English words’ sound in their daily presentations. On the other hand, care for transcriptions of sounds when speaking. Many students lack the basics that are supposed to be learned for acceptable pronunciation then mispronounce words. Then the researcher suggests some steps. She also finds new ideas for further investigations to improve the teaching/learning process and to achieve the aims of English communication.
