ABSTRACT In September 2014, the Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba Group Holding Limited issued shares on the New York Stock Exchange, making it the world's largest initial public offering. This case examines different aspects of the Alibaba Group's initial public offering, including Alibaba Group's business model, financial reporting and corporate governance, as well as the macroeconomic, political, and legal environment in which the company operates. In addition, this case will familiarize students with the risks and opportunities for Chinese companies and investors when a Chinese company lists in the U.S. This case is suitable for financial accounting and international accounting courses at the intermediate and advanced levels for undergraduates as well as graduate students. The case is scalable, and instructors can choose from multiple sections of the case and different case questions to tailor the case difficulty to their students' learning needs.

The purpose of this study is to demonstrate the impact of the application of IFRS 9 on the faithful representation of financial accounting information in Jordanian commercial banks. To achieve this objective, the study used the descriptive analytical approach to analyze a questionnaire that was answered by the managers of 13 commercial banks, which are listed in Amman stock exchange. The researchers distributed 78 questionnaires, while 76 were retrieved with a percentage of 97%. Additionally, the study relied on the descriptive statistics, correlation coefficients, and the simple regression to analyze the study data, and hypotheses. As a result, the study found a significant impact for the application of IFRS 9 to the faithful representation of financial accounting information. Relied on the aforementioned consequence, the study recommended that there is a necessity for financial departments to focus on measuring their financial obligations, as well as focusing on the development of accounting policies during the application of the standard. In addition, the study concludes that it is important for these banks to have an adequate knowledge of accounting standards in general, while standard No “9” specifically.

Japan's rise from a feudalistic economy to a position as a leading industrial power is a result, in part, of two revolutionary changes in its accounting structure. The first change came during the latter part of the nineteenth century as part of the Meiji Government's program of modernization. Various political, economic, and cultural institutions were adopted from the West, among them the double-entry method of bookkeeping; this method gradually replaced very unsatisfactory traditional methods. The second change came after World War II, when the Allied Command set as its objective the destruction of the Zaibatsu-dominated industrial structure and its replacement with a democratic economy, in which industrial capital is accumulated through the participation of investors in a free stock exchange. Such a change demanded a shift in emphasis from stewardship-oriented financial reporting to investor-oriented financial reporting.

This study represents a theoretical analysis with the purpose to continue the discussion on the relationship between management accounting (MA) and financial accounting (FA), by concentrating on the role of risk reporting as a possible manifestation of their convergence. Moreover, the analysis focuses on the private-firm sector as private firms represent the backbone of the economic system of several countries and little is known about financial and non-financial reporting. Drawing on the neo- Durkheimian institutional theory, this paper develops a conceptual framing that considers risk as an embedded element of the business domain and risk reporting as a direct outcome of the convergence between MA and FA in private firms. Furthermore, the neo-Durkheimian institutional theory emphasizes that the owners and managers' risk attitude is a crucial element affecting risk disclosure, especially in private firms.

The main objective of this paper is to deal with the relationship between financial and management accounting concerning goodwill accounting. In this research I referred to the existing literature on goodwill accounting, impairment losses, and impairment testing, considering both the amortization and the impairment era in order to understand how interrelationships between financial and management accounting based on goodwill accounting were investigated theoretically. The results of the review still show a lack of dialogue in the accounting research. Even though the scant empirical evidence of operating practice within the companies demonstrate a natural linkage during the impairment era, internal and external reporting are still considered as two separate domains. This result, more logical in the amortization era, denotes by now a relevant gap in accounting research and it is time to pose some relevant research questions to open up an interdisciplinary (internal and external reporting) view. It is possible that the development of this new strand of research helps to advance our knowledge of business on many fronts. I refer to the advancement necessary to explain the mixed results of financial accounting studies such as the controversial value relevance of write-offs or the reason for opportunistic behavior in goodwill accounting, to interpret how financial accounting rules influence management accounting and, in the opposite sense, how management accounting represents a relevant factor in determining the financial reporting environment. A less myopic view, more open to a comparison between management and financial accounting, will also help standard setters , to understand if their rules require the disclosure of already adopted internal practices, if they favor company managerial growth, or if they add new and too sophisticated administrative tasks, too far from the current state of managerial thinking.

The objective in this study is to examine empirically changes in the level of conservatism of corporate accounting information in Indonesia as a result of the use of Financial Accounting Standards (IFRS) adopted by IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards). Conservatism was measured using the Market-to-Book bias component model (Beaver and Ryan, 2000). This study uses the Financial Statement data from 178 companies, 2007 to 2016, listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange. Using multiple regression models that place accounting conservatism as a dependent variable while IFRS adoption, managerial ownership, institutional ownership, and public ownership as independent variables, this study proves that IFRS adoption does not affect the level of conservatism of accounting information. The size of the firm (size) and the composition of debt (leverage) is a control variable that participates in controlling the model of this study. Keywords: IFRS adoption, conservatism of accounting information.
