The focus of this introduction to this special issue is to draw a picture as comprehensive as possible about various dimensions of inconsistency. In particular, we consider: (1) levels of knowledge at which inconsistency occurs; (2) categories and morphologies of inconsistency; (3) causes of inconsistency; (4) circumstances of inconsistency; (5) persistency of inconsistency; (6) consequences of inconsistency; (7) metrics for inconsistency; (8) theories for handling inconsistency; (9) dependencies among occurrences of inconsistency; and (10) problem domains where inconsistency has been studied. The take-home message is that inconsistency is ubiquitous and handling inconsistency is consequential in our endeavors. How to manage and reason in the presence of inconsistency presents a very important issue in semantic computing, cloud computing, social computing, and many other data-rich or knowledge-rich computing systems.


Internet of things (IoT) is an emerging concept which aims to connect billions of devices with each other anytime regardless of their location. Sadly, these IoT devices do not have enough computing resources to process huge amount of data. Therefore, Cloud computing is relied on to provide these resources. However, cloud computing based architecture fails in applications that demand very low and predictable latency, therefore the need for fog computing which is a new paradigm that is regarded as an extension of cloud computing to provide services between end users and the cloud user. Unfortunately, Fog-IoT is confronted with various security and privacy risks and prone to several cyberattacks which is a serious challenge. The purpose of this work is to present security and privacy threats towards Fog-IoT platform and discuss the security and privacy requirements in fog computing. We then proceed to propose an Intrusion Detection System (IDS) model using Standard Deep Neural Network's Back Propagation algorithm (BPDNN) to mitigate intrusions that attack Fog-IoT platform. The experimental Dataset for the proposed model is obtained from the Canadian Institute for Cybersecurity 2017 Dataset. Each instance of the attack in the dataset is separated into separate files, which are DoS (Denial of Service), DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service), Web Attack, Brute Force FTP, Brute Force SSH, Heartbleed, Infiltration and Botnet (Bot Network) Attack. The proposed model is trained using a 3-layer BP-DNN

In recent years the Internet of Things (IoT) has rapidly become a revolutionary technological invention causing significant changes to the way both corporate computing systems, and even household gadgets and appliances, are designed and manufactured. The aim of this chapter is to highlight the security and privacy issues that may affect the evolution of IoT technology. The privacy issues are discussed from customer perspectives: first, the IoT privacy concern where the privacy debates on IoT and the IoT privacy that reflected from users' perspective based on the examination of previous researches results. In addition, the different architectures for IoT are discussed. Finally, the chapter discusses the IoT security concern by collecting, analyzing and presenting the major IoT security concerns in the literature as well as providing some potential solutions to these concerns.

Security and privacy issues are the challenging areas in the field of internet of things (IoT) and fog computing. IoT and fog has become an involving technology allowing major changes in the field of information systems and communication systems. This chapter provides the introduction of IoT and fog technology with a brief explanation of how fog is overcoming the challenges of cloud computing. Thereafter, the authors discuss the different security and privacy issues and its related solutions. Furthermore, they present six different case studies which will help the reader to understand the platform of IoT in fog.

Adoption of Internet of Things (IoT) and Cloud of Things (CoT) in the current developing technology era are expected to be more and more invasive, making them important mechanism of the future Internet-based communication systems. Cloud of Things and Internet of Things (IoT) are two emerging as well as diversified advanced domains that are diversified in current technological scenario. Paradigm where Cloud and IoT are merged together is foreseen as disruptive and as an enabler of a large number of application scenarios. Due to the adoption of the Cloud and IoT paradigm a number of applications are gaining important technical attention. In the future, it is going to be more complicated a setup to handle security in technology. Information till now will severely get changed and it will be very tough to keep up with varying technology. Organisations will have to repeatedly switch over to new skill-based technology with respect to higher expenditure. Latest tools, methods and enough expertise are highly essential to control threats and vulnerability to computing systems. Keeping in view the integration of Cloud computing and IoT in the new domain of Cloud of things, the said article provides an up-to-date eminence of Cloud-based IoT applications and Cloud of Things with a focus on their security and application-oriented challenges. These challenges are then synthesized in detail to present a technical survey on various issues related to IoT security, concerns, adopted mechanisms and their positive security assurance using Cloud of Things.

This journal article deals with the most important existing problems of security and privacy of the Cloud Computing (CC), Internet of Things (IoT) and Cloud of Things (CoT) concepts especially confidentiality issues. With the evolution of ubiquitous computing, everything is connected everywhere, therefore these concepts have been widely studied in the literature. However, due to the systems complexity and the difficulty to control each access attempt, intrusions and vulnerabilities will be more recurrent. To tackle this issue, researchers have been focused on various approaches enforcing security and privacy. In the present article, risk factors and solutions regarding these technologies are reviewed then current and future trends are discussed.
