ABSTRACTMethods of obtaining large grain size and high crystallinity in absorber materials play an important role in fabrication of high-performance methylammonium lead iodide (MAPbI3) perovskite solar cells. Here we study the effect of adding small concentrations of Cd2+, Zn2+, and Fe2+salts to the perovskite precursor solution used in the single-step solution fabrication process. Enhanced grain size and crystallinity in MAPbI3 films were obtained by using 0.1% of Cd2+ or Zn2+in the precursor solution. Consequently, solar cells constructed with Cd- and Zn-doped perovskite films show a significant improvement in device performance. These results suggest that the process may be an effective and facile method to fabricate high-efficiency perovskite photovoltaic devices.

Organic/inorganic metal halide formamidinium lead iodide (FAPbI3) perovskites exhibit excellent optical properties, a suitable band gap, a wide light-absorption range, and superior electron-hole mobility. However, it is difficult to fabricate high-quality α-phase FAPbI3 film due to the relatively easy formation of the more stable δ-FAPbI3 (hexagonal structure). To overcome this, in this study, formamidinium lead bromide (FAPbBr3) was used to induce the synthesis of stable α-phase FAPbI3. The resulting light-absorbing layer was composed of (FAPbI3)0.95 (FAPbBr3)0.05, but δ-phase FAPbI3 could be still observed. To suppress the formation of δ-phase FAPbI3 , methylammonium chloride (MACl) was added to the (FAPbI3)0.95 (FAPbBr3)0.05 precursor solution. At an optimal MACl content of 40 mol%, perovskites with improved crystallinity and large crystallite size could be fabricated, resulting in a perovskite solar-cell efficiency of 18.204%.

Practical applications of bulk YBa2Cu3O7−x materials have been limited because of their inadequate critical current density (jc) and poor mechanical properties. Several recent reports have indicated that the addition of Ag to the YBa2Cu3O7−x system is beneficial in improving both mechanical and superconducting properties. However, detailed studies concerning the effect of Ag on the microstructural development of the cermet system have been lacking. Here, we present some observations on the microstructural evolution in the YBa2Cu3O7−x/Ag composite system. The composite samples were prepared by mixing various amounts (2.5 - 50 wt%) AgNO3 in the YBa2Cu3O7−x nitrate precursor solution. These solutions were then spray dried and the resulting powders were either cold pressed or tape cast. The microstructures of the sintered samples were analyzed using SEM (Philips 515) and an analytical TEM (Philips 430T).The SEM micrographs of the compacts with 2.5 and 50 wt% Ag addition sintered at 915°C (below the melting point of Ag) for 1 h in air are displayed in Figs. 1 and 2, respectively.

Metal halide perovskite nanocrystals (NCs) have emerged as a new generation light emitting materials with narrow emissions and high photoluminescence quantum efficiencies (PLQEs). Various types of perovskite NCs, e.g. platelets, wires, and cubes, have been discovered to exhibit tunable emissions across the whole visible spectral region. Despite remarkable advances in the field of metal halide perovskite NCs over the last few years, many nanostructures in inorganic NCs have yet been realized in metal halide perovskites and producing highly efficient blue emitting perovskite NCs remains challenging and of great interest. Here we report for the first time the discovery of highly efficient blue emitting cesium lead bromide perovskite (CsPbBr3) NCs with hollow structures. By facile solution processing of cesium lead bromide perovskite precursor solution containing additional ethylenediammonium bromide and sodium bromide, in-situ formation of hollow CsPbBr3 NCs with controlled particle and pore sizes is realized. Synthetic control of hollow nanostructures with quantum confinement effects results in color tuning of CsPbBr3 NCs from green to blue with high PLQEs of up to 81 %.
