BACKGROUND Relatives of people with psychosis or bipolar disorder experience high levels of distress but typically are not offered the support they need. Peer online forums may offer a solution, but knowledge about who uses them, how and why is limited. The current study reported on online forum usage during the REACT trial [21]. OBJECTIVE We aimed to report: (1) who used the forum and why; (2) how sociodemographic factors are associated with participation; (3) the relationships between frequency, type of use, and outcomes; and (4) how the forum was used. METHODS Relationships between key socio-demographic characteristics, levels of forum use, and distress were statistically analysed. We used thematic and semantic analysis to understand the reasons relatives joined the forum and the key topics initiated by them. We also used the UCREL Semantic Analysis System (USAS) to compare how relatives and REACT Supporters (moderators) used the forum. RESULTS 348 participants from REACT had complete web-usage data and were included in this study. The forum was accessed by 59% of relatives across the whole age range with no significant associations between sociodemographic factors and forum participation, or between level/type of use and relatives’ distress levels. Relatives joined the forum primarily to find people in similar circumstances, express concerns and talk about stressful events. Relatives were concerned most about recent events, negative emotions linked to caring, experiences of conflict/threat, and concerns about suicide. These posts underscored both the challenges relatives were facing and that they felt safe to share these in this context. CONCLUSIONS Whilst only a proportion of REACT participants engaged actively with its forum they are widely distributed across age and other sociodemographic groupings. Relatives used the forum for information, support and guidance and to offer detailed information about their experiences. The topics raised highlight the burden carried by relatives and the potential value of easy access, moderated, peer supported forums in helping relatives manage the challenges they face.

In this paper, we propose a corpus annotation scheme and lexicon for Chinese kinship terms. We modify existing traditional Chinese kinship schemes into a comprehensive semantic field framework that covers kinship semantic categories in contemporary Chinese. The scheme is inspired by the Lancaster USAS (UCREL Semantic Analysis System) taxonomy, which contains categories for English kinship terms. We show how our scheme works with a Chinese kinship semantic lexicon which covers parents, siblings, marital relations, off-spring and same-sex partnerships. The kinship lexicon was created through a pilot study involving the Lancaster University Mandarin Corpus. We foresee that our annotation scheme and lexicon will provide a framework and resource for the kinship annotation of Chinese corpora and corpus-based kinship studies.

This study investigates the instrumental role of translated environmental news in informing public opinions on environmental issues among Chinese-speaking communities. Its contribution to methodology is exploring the automatic corpus annotation tools, that is, semantic analysis system. Its contribution to theory is identifying and distinguishing among three recurrent sub-news-types of translated environmental news published on BBC China, that is, governance; international relations and environmental science. Discourse features attributed to these subtypes of environmental news underscore BBC China’s reporting styles and strategies and largely explain its wide appeal and credibility among the target audiences.

This essay examines the Arab view of the approach taken by the Japanese researcher Toshihiko Izutsu in his application of semantic theory to the Qur'an, focusing on three of his works: God and Man in the Koran, Ethico-religious Concepts in the Qurʾān and The Concept of Belief in Islamic Theology: A Semantic Analysis of Īmān and Islām (all of which have recently been translated into Arabic by Eisa Al-Akoub and published by Al-Multaqā Publishing House in Aleppo). From the responses of a number of Arab researchers of the Qur'an to these translations over the last three years, it has become apparent that Izutsu's studies are viewed as being of great importance because, through their theoretical and applied principles, they form the basis of a new approach to studying the Qur'an. This essay will discuss the general response to Izutsu's work, and also focus on a number of individual responses to Izutsu's work from a number of Syrian and Lebanese academics who have a specific interest in modern methodologies in the study of the Qur'an. As will be seen, some Arab writers show genuine attitudes of admiration and appreciation towards Izutsu's work, while others are more conservative and cautious in their assessment of Izutsu's contribution.

The research is aimed at overcoming the uncertainties associated with the reform of legislation regarding the technical regulation of the building industry. The main goal of the paper is to systematize the normative base of building of Ukraine in the conditions of adaptation of normative documents to the requirements of the European Union. In order to achieve this goal, an analysis of the peculiarities of the information resource of the normative base was conducted and the nature of the uncertainty contained in the normative documentation of the industry was investigated. The status of modern electronic databases of normative documentation in the building and building materials industry of Ukraine is described. The scheme for identifying different documents on the same issue is proposed. The possibility of applying models and methods of fuzzy mathematics to formalization of texts of building norms and rules and expression of their semantics in the internal language of the Semantic Text Information Analysis System is shown. The practical value of the paper is seen in the improvement of the organizational and technical system "Technical Regulation in Building" by minimizing the number of regulations on the same issue and achieving consistency between normative. The paper's scientific novelty of is to apply the model of artificial intelligence to the solution of the problem of semantic analysis of documents contained in electronic bases of normative documentation of the system of technical regulation in building. The capability of artificial neural networks of the ImegNet category to solve the problem of semantic analysis text documents of Building Normative Base is proved Further researches will focus on forming the Text Information Semantic Analysis System knowledge base and adapting the Deep Structured Semantic Model to the task of assessing the degree of closeness between a Semantic Request and a Semantic Normative Document. The results can be used to improve other workflow systems.

This paper examines the structural semantic approach based on the theory of linguistic relativity to scriptural language as exemplified in Toshihiko Izutsu’s studies of the Qur’anic weltanschauung. According to this theory, each language contains a particular worldview that causes its speakers to view the world in a way different from the speakers of other languages. By an analytical study of the semantic fields and contextual use of the Qur’an’s key conceptual terms, Izutsu explores the semantic factors believed to have been employed by the Qur’an in its Islamization of the jahili (pre-Islamic Arab) worldview. Such an approach exhibits that the Qur’an’s linguistic vision of reality is internally coherent but culturally and historically conditioned. Following a textual analysis, this study critically examines, from both an ethical and a theological perspective, the semantic theory that Izutsu applies to the Qur’an’s key concepts in his two works: God and Man in the Qur’an and Ethico-Religious Concepts in the Qur’an. The objective is to investigate the extent to which semantic analysis could enrich our understanding of the ontological problems raised in the Qur’an.

An-Nur in the Qur’an is a familiar word. It was mentioned in many verses withdifferent context. An-Nur in each verse has a different meaning, then need to adeep understanding. The purpose of this study is to know the real meaning fromAn-Nur in the Qur’an use a semantic theory. Semantic of Al-Qur’an is an attemptto reveal the world view of Qur’an on some terms and vocabularies in Qur’anthrough a semantic analysis. The analysis process begins from research a basicmeaning and contextual meaning of An-Nur with some verses. The conclusions ofthis study is that the word Án-Nur in the Qur’an has three categories; 1) An-Nuras something to fight digression, 2) An-Nur as the religion from God, and 3) Godas An-Nur or the Highest Level of An-Nur. The word An-Nur in the Qu’an isalways mentioned in singular form, while the darkness (opposite) is alwaysmentioned in plural form. That shows there are many dark or bad things, such asa various kinds of immorality, but it will be defeated with the one of the light (An-Nur). God as the Highest Light, Eternal, True, and Everything
