A new guidance law considering missile autopilot dynamics is established via integrating a smooth super-twisting algorithm with nonlinear integral sliding mode. In this guidance law, a finite-time disturbance observer is introduced to estimate mismatched and matched disturbances resulting from target maneuvers. Based on Lyapunov stability theory, the finite-time stability of the closed-loop guidance system under this law is analyzed using a finite-time bounded function. The super-twisting algorithm guarantees that the proposed guidance law is chattering-free and the disturbance observer does not depend on the prior knowledge of target acceleration. So the proposed guidance law is easy to be implemented in practice. The finite-time convergence and robustness of the proposed guidance law are demonstrated via numerical simulations accounting for missile autopilot dynamics.

In this paper, we propose the disturbance observer-based continuous finite-time sliding mode controller (DOBCSMC) for input-affine nonlinear systems in which additive matched and mismatched disturbances exist. The objective is to show the robustness and disturbance attenuation performance of the closed-loop system with the proposed DOBCSMC subjected to general classes of matched and mismatched disturbances. The proposed DOBCSMC consists of three main features: (i) the nonlinear finite-time disturbance observer to obtain a fast and accurate estimation of matched and mismatched disturbances, (ii) the nonlinear sliding surface to ensure high precision in the steady-state phase of the controlled output, and (iii) the continuous supertwisting algorithm to guarantee finite-time convergence of the controlled output and reduce the chattering under the effect of matched and mismatched disturbances. It should be noted that the existing approaches cannot handle time-varying mismatched disturbances and/or cannot guarantee faster finite-time stability of the controlled output. We prove that the closed-loop system with the DOBCSMC guarantees both finite-time reachability to the sliding surface and finite-time stability of the controlled output to the origin. Various simulations are performed to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed DOBCSMC. In particular, the simulation results show that the DOBCSMC guarantees faster convergence of the closed-loop system to the origin, higher precision of the controlled output, and better robustness performance against various classes of (time-varying) matched and mismatched disturbances, compared with the existing approaches.

The finite-time tracking control problem of rigid manipulator system with mismatched disturbances is investigated via a composite control method. The proposed composite controller is based on finite-time disturbance observer and adding a power integrator technique. First, a finite-time disturbance observer is designed which guarantees that the disturbances can be estimated in a finite time. Then, a composite controller is developed based on adding a power integrator approach and the estimates of the disturbances. Under the proposed composite controller, the manipulator position can track the desired position in a finite time. Simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed control scheme.

Space manipulator is considered as one of the most promising technologies for future space activities owing to its important role in various on-orbit serving missions. In this study, a robust finite-time tracking control method is proposed for the rapid and accurate trajectory tracking control of an attitude-controlled free-flying space manipulator in the presence of parametric uncertainties and external disturbances. First, a baseline finite-time tracking controller is designed to track the desired position of the space manipulator based on the homogeneous method. Then, a finite-time disturbance observer is designed to accurately estimate the lumped uncertainties. Finally, a robust finite-time tracking controller is developed by integrating the baseline finite-time tracking controller with the finite-time disturbance observer. Rigorous theoretical analysis for the global finite-time stability of the whole closed-loop system is provided. The proposed robust finite-time tracking controller has a relatively simple structure and can guarantee the position and velocity tracking errors converge to zero in finite time even subject to lumped uncertainties. To the best of the authors’ knowledge, there are really limited existing controllers can achieve such excellent performance under the same conditions. Numerical simulations illustrate the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed control method.
