A building block approach was used to design a modular synthetic route for the preparation of novel glycerolipids with phenolic and polyphenolic headgroups. Based on this scheme, it is possible to vary the substitution pattern of the headgroup, the stereochemistry of the backbone, and the length of the sidechains. Five glycerolipids with different headgroups and identical backbone stereochemistry and chain length have been prepared.Key words: glycerolipid, polyphenol, hydrogen bonding, lipid-protein interaction, self-adhering.

AbstractA novel polydimethylsiloxane containing two primary hydroxyl groups at one single chain end was synthesized by five-step reactions which included esterification, hydroxyl protection, anionic ring-opening polymerization, hydrosilylation and deprotection. The prepared compounds in each step were characterized. The results showed that at each step synthesis was successfully carried out and objective products could be achieved.

AbstractThree different monomers starting from p-(4-hydroxy)benzoic acid and 3- chloro-1-propanol, 4-chloro-1-butanol and 6-chloro-1-hexanol, respectively, were synthesized and extensively characterized by means of 1H and 13C NMR, MALDITOF MS and elemental analysis. Subsequently, poly(4-oxyalkylenoxy benzoate)s polymers with different chain length were prepared in bulk starting from the mentioned above monomers, employing Ti(OBu)4 as catalyst, according to the usual two-stage polymerization procedure. The polymers were characterized in terms of chemical structure, molecular mass and thermal behaviour. Tg, Tm and the ability to crystallize were found to be affected by the number of methylene groups per repeat unit and the results were explained mainly on the basis of the increment of the chain flexibility.
