We study the pion electromagnetic form factor and the dilepton production rate in hot matter based on the vector manifestation (VM) of chiral symmetry in which the massless vector meson becomes the chiral partner of the pion, giving a theoretical framework of the dropping ρ à la Brown–Rho scaling. The VM predicts a strong violation of the vector dominance (VD) near the phase transition point associated with the dropping ρ. We present the effect of the VD violation to the dilepton production rate and make a comparison to the one predicted by assuming the VD together with the dropping ρ.

Chiral symmetry represents a fundamental concept lying at the core of particle and nuclear physics. Its spontaneous breaking in vacuum can be exploited to distinguish chiral hadronic partners, whose masses differ. In fact, the features of this breaking serve as guiding principles for the construction of effective approaches of QCD at low energies, e.g., the chiral perturbation theory, the linear sigma model, the (Polyakov)–Nambu–Jona-Lasinio model, etc. At high temperatures/densities chiral symmetry can be restored bringing the chiral partners to be nearly degenerated in mass. At vanishing baryochemical potential, such restoration follows a smooth transition, and the chiral companions reach this degeneration above the transition temperature. In this work I review how different realizations of chiral partner degeneracy arise in different effective theories/models of QCD. I distinguish the cases where the chiral states are either fundamental degrees of freedom or (dynamically-generated) composed states. In particular, I discuss the intriguing case in which chiral symmetry restoration involves more than two chiral partners, recently addressed in the literature.

Results of the DSAM lifetime measurements in supposed chiral partner bands of 128 Cs and 132 La are presented. Experimental reduced transition probabilities in 128 Cs are compared with theoretical calculations done in the frame of the Core-QuasiParticle Coupling model. The electromagnetic properties and energy pattern of partner bands show that 128 Cs is the best candidate revealing the chiral symmetry breaking phenomenon.

The quark-level linear σ model (LσM) is revisited, in particular concerning the identification of the f0(400–1200) (or σ(600)) scalar meson as the chiral partner of the pion. We demonstrate the predictive power of the LσM through the ππ and πNs-wave scattering lengths, as well as several electromagnetic, weak, and strong decays of pseudoscalar and vector mesons. The ease with which the data for these observables are reproduced in the LσM lends credit to the necessity to include the σ as a fundamental [Formula: see text] degree of freedom, to be contrasted with approaches like chiral perturbation theory or the confining NJL model of Shakin and Wang.

The lifetime of levels in 128 Cs and 132 La have been measured in-beam of the Warsaw University Cyclotron using DSA method. The absolute M1 and E2 transition probabilities have been deduced. Two cases have been found: 132 La where the B(E2) values in yrast and partner bands differ up to 30 times and 128 Cs - the B(E2) values in both bands differ only few times. It seems that bands in 128 Cs are better candidates for chiral partner bands than the ones in 132 La .
