Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the nature of procurement process followed by MONUSCO and the involvement of stakeholders in this process.Methodology: The study employed a descriptive case study design. The target population comprised of 261 employees of MONUSCO Entebbe Support Base holding international, United Nations Volunteers (UNV) and National contracts. Random and purposive sampling techniques were specifically used to select samples for this study. Data was collected using questionnaires and interview guides. The quantitative data collected was further analysed using SPSS for descriptive and inferential statistics while the qualitative data was analysed using content analysis.Findings: The study findings showed that there is procurement planning in most MONUSCO sections; that funds are available before planning; that staff are involved in procurement planning in their respective sections; and that procurement planning contributes to achieve the maximum value for expenditures on goods/services and works to be delivered at MONUSCO sections. The study found that procurement planning had led to improved levels of MONUSCO operations in the areas of humanitarian relief, peacekeeping, development assistance to affected communities. The study further found that staff are involved in the identification and definition of the needs of user sections and that the Statement of Requirements (SOR)/or Scope of Work (SOW) was important in their respective sections. These had aided in full scale involvement of relevant stakeholders in the procurement planning activities of MONUSCO ESB.Unique contribution to theory, practice and policy: The study recommends a clear determination of specifications in terms of required quality and quantities by the end-user departments in MONUSCO ESB. Planning and determination of needs should be done early to allow enough time to initiate the procurement process. The study further recommends that the procurement department should always engage all concerned stakeholders in determining the materials and service specification for quality assurance during service delivery. This will enable the sections to always get the quantity of items as requested by end-users, in their right quantity, right quality and at the right time.

Abstract Cancer is the second leading cause of dead in Europe and it is responsible of more than 30% of all deaths. For this reason, European Union (EU) identified the battle against cancer as a priority for the European Research Program 2021-2027.About 40% of total deaths for cancers could be prevented with screening.Validated screening test are available for breast (BC), cervical (CC) and colorectal cancers (CRC). In 2003 the Recommendation of the European Council indicated the right timing and the population target but, nowadays, the percentage of screening within EU is low and consistent differences persist among States. In 2020 there are still countries that don't have population-based screening programs. Last data available for all 28 EU countries are referred to 2014. Data were retrieved from “Osservasalute” reports and Global Burden of Disease database.Pearson test and a paired t test were used to describe correlation between mortality and screening coverage rates. In 2014 the mean percentage of screening was 70.7% for CC, 68.7% for BC and 31.3% for CRC and the mean of mortality rate was of 2.1, 10.4 and 17.2 for 100,000, respectively. The rate of mortality did not change significantly in 2017 (2, 10 and 16 for 100,000 respectively). The median coverage is 67 for BC [IR: 43-91], 21.4 for CRC [IR: -3-46] and 70.6 for CC [IR: 54-87]. Pearson test resulted in a negative correlation for all three cancers equal to -0.045, -0.060 and -0.561, respectively.A higher adherence to screening programs is significantly associated to lower mortality rates in all the three types of cancer (p < 0.01). Even if many factors determine the rate of cancer mortality, screening represents the best method to early diagnosis and treatment.Up-to-date data are needed to correctly monitor progress towards the common goal of reaching the entire target population with screenings.A strong leadership at international level is necessary to improve screening programs all over EU and support screening campaigns. Key messages Screening is one of the most efficient and life-saving way to prevent cancer. It is needed to improve screening adherence through population-based programmes both at international and national level. Last data available for all EU countries are referred to 2014. It is necessary to update the data in order to enhance the understanding of screening efficiency.

Observational studies have taught us a lot about the origin of neurological and neuropsychiatric diseases. This chapter describes how we can translate this knowledge into action. Before engaging in a large RCT, several steps have to be taken. First, the potential for a treatment effect has to be compelling. The target population in the RCT has to resemble the population in which observational studies described an association. Second, the outcome of an RCT has to be chosen, and has to have clinical relevance or at least have the potential of clinical relevance in the future. Third, the right study design has to be decided on. Each research question will require a specific study design with accompanying sample size calculation. Lastly, specific ethical considerations have to be taken into account when designing and executing an intervention study. This chapter presents an overview of these issues.

AbstractBackgroundBased on the updated scientific evidence around SARS-CoV-2 diagnostic, health policymakers had to consider that many decisions could enhance or limit the success of the overall COVID-19 control strategy. The purpose of this study is to share alternative COVID-19 case management based on the updated international knowledge.MethodsThis study presents the main information about COVID-19 case management in Morocco from March to October 2020. The NVivo qualitative model content analysis was used to compare and prioritize health decisions with updated scientific evidence.ResultsThe lack of molecular diagnostic accuracy using the interpretation of cycles quantification values, was targeted only by allowing all private laboratories to do RT qPCR. However, there is an urgent need for standardisation with accurate molecular SARS-CoV-2 thermocyclers and kits that notify systematic cycles quantification and do more tests per days to control the spread effectively. A predictive tree of the cycle’s range is presented following three steps: 1) the initial clinical definition, 2) the molecular confirmation, 3) and the diagnostic follows up results of the RT qPCR up to 28 days after the onset. At the same time, the seasonal vaccination against influenza and pneumonia could help to reduce COVID-19 deaths.ConclusionsUntil an available SARS-CoV-2 specific vaccine and/or curative effective treatment, updated control strategy in Morocco and similar context countries require to target population living in highly COVID-19 epidemic cities or areas by mass testing with the right interpretation of PCR values changes, associated to seasonal vaccination to foster the immunity.
