Abstract The results of studies of the effect of illumination on the frequency dependence of the electrical parameters of bismuth silicate Bi_12SiO_20 single crystals are presented. Illumination in the visible spectral region induces a change in the dielectric parameters (the photodielectric effect) and the manifestation of photoconductivity in the low-frequency region under study. The hopping character of conduction in the dark and upon excitation with light is established. The possible mechanisms of the photodielectric effect and charge transport in the crystals are discussed.

A way for synchronous control of the intensity of transmitted and reflected light in magnetic semiconductors by an external magnetic field is proposed in the infrared spectral region. For illustration, we obtained the magnetoreflection and magnetotransmission spectra of unpolarized light in single crystals of Hg(Cd)Cr2Se4 spinel.

AbstractThe absorption coefficient of Bi12TiO20:Rh single crystals is measured in the spectral region 600-950 nm. The oscillator strength f and the transition moment of the impurity band Q are calculated in the near infrared spectral region. The effective mass of doped single crystal has been determined also.

The spectral dependences of the transmittance of CsI, AgCl, KRS-5 and KRS-6 single crystals in the infrared (IR) and terahertz (THz) ranges have been measured. The spectral dependences of the absorption (attenuation) coefficient of these crystals were calculated in the spectral range of 200–3000 μm. It was found, that these crystals are transparent in the millimeter range, which makes it possible to use materials when working with THz radiation. It should be noted that, in contrast to the IR spectral region, the optical quality of the surface of the crystal samples practically does not affect the transmission in the millimeter range.

AbstractThe absorption coefficient of Bi12TiO20:AlI, Bi12TiO20:AlII, Bi12SiO20:P and Bi12SiO20:Al+P single crystals is measured in the spectral region of Urbach’s rule (1.52 – 2.92 eV) at room temperature. The parameters of electron-phonon interaction, Urbach’s energy and the constants of Urbach’s rule are calculated. The behavior of the acceptors Al3+and P5+in Urbach’s rule region has been considered.
