The absolute configuration has been established of the enantiopureanti-head-to-head cyclodimer of anthracene-2-carboxylic acid (AC) cocrystallized with L-propinol and dichloromethane [systematic name: (S)-2-(hydroxymethyl)pyrrolidin-1-ium (5R,6S,11R,12S)-8-carboxy-5,6,11,12-tetrahydro-5,12:6,11-bis([1,2]benzeno)dibenzo[a,e][8]annulene-2-carboxylate dichloromethane monosolvate], C5H12NO+·C30H19O4−·CH2Cl2. In the crystal structure, the AC dimer interacts with L-prolinol through a nine-membered hydrogen-bonded ring [R22(9)], while the dichloromethane molecule is incorporated to fill the void space. The absolute configuration determined in this study verifies a recent assignment made by comparing theoreticalversusexperimental circular dichroism spectra.

In order to find out the influence of carboxylic acid functionalities in the N-lactam side chains of indenoisoquinolines on cytotoxic activities, several new compounds have been synthesized and structurally characterized by analytical and spectral methods. The incorporation of a carboxylic acid group into the lactam side chain of indenoisoquinolines results in differences in cytotoxicity. The results indicated that compound 18c displayed substantial cytotoxic specificity toward KB and HepG2 cancer cells.

Pyridinium-3-carboxylic acid perchlorate was synthesized and separated as crystals. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) measurements show that this compound undergoes a reversible phase transition at ∼ 135 K with a wide hysteresis of 15 K. Dielectric measurements confirm the transition at ∼ 127 K. Measurement of the unit-cell parameters versus temperature shows that the values of the c axis and β angle change abruptly and remarkably at 129 (2) K, indicating that the system undergoes a first-order transition at T c = 129 K. The crystal structures determined at 103 and 298 K are all monoclinic in P21/c, showing that the phase transition is isosymmetric. The crystal contains one-dimensional hydrogen-bonded chains of the pyridinium-3-carboxylic acid cations, which are further linked to perchlorate anions by hydrogen bonds to form well separated infinite planar layers. The most distinct differences between the structures of the higher-temperature phase and the lower-temperature phase are the change of the distance between the adjacent pyridinium ring planes within the hydrogen-bonded chains and the relative displacement between the hydrogen-bonded layers. Structural analysis shows that the driving force of the transition is the reorientation of the pyridinium-3-carboxylic acid cations. The degree of order of the perchlorate anions may be a secondary order parameter.

Based on the analysis of the chemical structure of polycarboxylate-type SPs grafted PEO side chains, as well as sulfonic and carboxylic acid groups, a kind of polycarboxylate-based SPs grafted varied PEO side chains were synthesized by using radical polymerisation techniques. The relative dispersing effectiveness of the SPs was evaluated in cement paste and concrete by measuring paste flow and concrete slumps. The test results indicat that the copolymers with shorter PEO side chains (with 9 and 14 EO units) give lower initial dispersing power but higher time retention, with the prolonging of PEO side chains the higher initial dispersing effect and the lower time retention can be received. The excellent dispersing property and time retention of synthesized SPs for cementious systems can be achieved by grafted long side chain(with 45 EO units) integrated with short side chain(9 or 14 EO) at the backbone of anionic polymer.

A new polymorph of the cinnamic acid–isoniazid cocrystal has been prepared by slow evaporation, namely cinnamic acid–pyridine-4-carbohydrazide (1/1), C9H8O2·C6H7N3O. The crystal structure is characterized by a hydrogen-bonded tetrameric arrangement of two molecules of isoniazid and two of cinnamic acid. Possible modification of the hydrogen bonding was investigated by changing the hydrazide group of isoniazidviaanin situreaction with acetone and cocrystallization with cinnamic acid. In the structure of cinnamic acid–N′-(propan-2-ylidene)isonicotinohydrazide (1/1), C9H8O2·C9H11N3O, carboxylic acid–pyridine O—H...N and hydrazide–hydrazide N—H...O hydrogen bonds are formed.
