It can be challenging for people in an innovation project to develop a shared understanding of the project's overall vision and of what they need to do practically—especially if the project is organized as networked innovation and follows a designerly approach. Yet shared understanding is critical for success. Based on an explorative study of one innovation project, in which ICT applications are developed, we discuss the ways in which the development and evaluation of scenarios and demonstrators can help the people involved to develop a shared understanding. Furthermore, we propose several recommendations for managers of innovation projects for effectively organizing the development and evaluation of scenarios and demonstrators.

AbstractThe sharing of expertise and tacit knowing is one of the core objectives in participatory design projects. This paper focuses on the role of probes for sharing users’ tacit knowing. We will introduce the concept of “boundary objects” [22], [21] to analyse how probes facilitate perspective taking and perspective making between users and between users and researchers. In so doing, we demonstrate that probes can facilitate the sharing of users’ tacit knowing and expertise (i) by making and explicating individual users’ perspectives, (ii) by enabling participants to take each other’s perspective and make a joint perspective and (iii) by subsequently enabling the making of a joint vision on the digital design outcome. The research presented in this paper is based on an EU-funded research and innovation project in which we co-created digital neighbourhood guide with older adults. We report from our fieldwork in city 1, where we used probes as part of our participatory design practice.

The growth of costs for innovation, as well as the growing role of public administration institutions, makes us take a fresh look at the cost management system. The article discusses the key point of the innovation cost management system at different levels of administration. Public administration institutions contribute to the implementation of innovation in the framework of both its own economic strategy and taking into account the strategy of higher governing bodies. The interaction and cooperation of various management structures within the framework of the implementation of a single innovative project can create an excessive expenditure of financial resources, which is why the issue of competent management of innovative costs becomes so significant. On a specific innovation project, possible problems in the interaction of various public administration institutions are considered, when planning and implementing a joint innovation project.

The main idea of this paper is that innovation is contributing to the efficiency and sustainability of investment. The main question is how to measure and assess efficiency of investment in innovation for the project benefit. The main objectives of this paper are: a) to analyse the concept and theoretical models of innovation, and b) to establish the criteria and select model for further assessing the efficiency of investment in innovation project. The research was based on analytical and expert methods and included theoretical analysis of literature sources, analytical, expert and comparison analysis. This paper discusses the definition of innovation of different authors, as well as the role of innovation for the efficiency of investment, and defines various criteria for measuring the efficiency of investment in innovation project. Paper suggests these criteria allocated to five groups related to product, process, finance, market and management. The comparison of three models (CBA, DEA and MCA) presented in this paper concluded that all three models in principle are suitable for assessing efficiency of investment in innovation project. However, the management aspect, which is hardly measurable but important in innovation efficiency performance analysis, suggests proceeding further modelling with MCA using it as complement to CBA.

Previous research indicates that the presence of a champion in an innovation project increases the likelihood that firms will allocate resources to the innovation project. Relatively little is, however, known about how champions’ presence exactly influences resource allocation. A case study of two innovation projects in the construction industry was conducted to further explore this question. The findings suggest that it is not so much champions’ presence as such, but one of champions’ prototypical behaviours that influences firms’ willingness to allocate resources. Here we refer to champions’ expression of enthusiasm and confidence about the success of an innovation. Further, the findings suggests that the effect might be explained by the mediating role of firms’ expectations of the rate of adoption. Overall, the case study provides a step towards a deeper understanding of how champions induce firms to allocate resources to innovation projects.

The necessity of innovation and investment development of agro-industrial complex of Ukraine, as one of the leading sectors of the economy is substantiated. The role of science as a source of innovation is defined. The prospects of biological vector of development of agricultural production in general, and the use of drugs on the basis of beneficial soil microorganisms in particular are highlighted. Innovative advantages of microbial preparations use as industrial means whose value increases especially in the economic crisis are presented. On an example of a specific innovation project the effectiveness of investments in the production of agricultural microbiology is investigated.

Orientating to the innovative development and economic growth, provided by them, nowadays allows enterprises to achieve competitive advantages not only in the production and sale of products (projects, services), but above all in the methods of business development. The theory of innovative development in the economy, which is one of the main economic doctrines of modern times for a large number of countries in the world, is now only being formed in Ukraineand is in the stage of active development. Considering the features and problems of the innovation processes of domestic enterprises, there is a need to further develop their competitiveness for domestic and external markets. The purpose of the article is to develop the theoretical and methodological foundations in the field of enterprise development based on innovation, as well as to determine the role of innovation to ensure the stable development of the enterprise. The object of the study is the formation of an innovative strategy of the enterprise and its components for the implementation of an innovative project. Methods used in the research are a systematic approach, a method of generalization, comparison. The hypothesis of research is that innovation plays an important role in ensuring the stable development of the enterprise. The statement of basic materials. It is determined that innovative development is a consequence of innovative processes occurring in the enterprise. In its innovative development, enterprises go through a number of stages: research, development and implementation. The main properties of innovation are scientific novelty, practical applicability and commercial feasibility. The method of forming a strategy for the introduction of innovation, types of improvement of the competitiveness of the enterprise, stages and components of the innovation process are all considered, as well as factors that may affect the formation and outcome of the investment and innovation project. Originality and practical significance of the research. The article gives an idea of the role of innovation for a modern enterprise and helps to determine the main guidelines for the development and implementation of innovative solutions. The author reflects on the most important properties of economic innovation processes, which enables us to significantly distinguish them from other business processes. Conclusions of research. It was concluded that in the conditions of the modern economic environment, innovation for an enterprise is a necessary condition for survival.  However, by introducing innovations, managers of all levels are faced with the problem of uncertainty of new factors that have a significant impact on the progress of the innovation process and on the activity of the enterprise as a whole. The research results can be used in the development of strategies for the implementation of the innovation process in an enterprise of any form of organization.
