Abstract Three series of segmented polyurethanes with different soft segment lengths and concentrations were examined by TMA, DMA, and mechanical methods. Maximum tensile strengths were obtained when ssc was 40–50%, which was explained by a specific interlocking morphology. No significant effect of soft-segment chain length on maximum strength was found, but higher values were found in the C series when ssc was 60%. Elongation at break increases linearly with ssc but indications that shorter soft segments produce higher extensions was attributed to plastic flow. TMA showed that Tg was independent of ssc in the C and, to a degree, in the B series, while temperature of α-transition in DMA was independent of ssc only in the C series at ssc above 50%.

AbstractThe synthesis of ecological waterborne polyurethane cationomers containing fluorinated polyol (0–20 wt.%) was successfully performed. FTIR and NMR analysis results confirmed the structure of the obtained polyurethane cationomers and incorporation of fluorinated component into the polyurethane chains. Average molar mass and phase structure of the obtained PU thin films were determined based on GPC, FTIR, WAXD and SEM-EDX results. The obtained cationomers have linear structures with clearly visible microphase separation of soft and hard segment domains; the presence of fluorinated polyol changes the strength of hydrogen bonds and in consequence degree of phase separation. The activation energy of glass transition was calculated based on multi-frequency DSC data. It has been shown that the presence of soft fluorinated segments in the cationomer structure strongly influences the hydrophobic, thermal and mechanical properties of the obtained films.

The number of cross-links in the non-linear polyurethane structure is the basic factor affecting its properties. Selected properties of aliphatic polyurethanes with soft segments made of different amounts of polycaprolactonetriol, polycaprolactonediol and synthetic, telechelic poly([R,S]-3-hydroxybutyrate) were determined. On the basis of changes in polyurethane properties, the correlation between these properties and the construction of soft segments was found. The structure of polyurethanes, their morphology, hydrophilicity, thermal and mechanical properties were examined. These properties were changed linearly up to 15% content of polycaprolactonetriol in soft segments. A further increase in the amount of triol causes that these properties are mainly determined by the high number of cross-links.
