Abstract In this research, different strategies to modify the structure of polymer blends were investigated with the objective of adjusting the composition of polyoxymethylene (POM) and poly(lactic acid) (PLA) under typical processing conditions. POM shows a good balance of mechanical and thermal properties. However, this polymer is obtained from petrochemical sources, and in some markets, environmentally friendly materials are important. Blending POM with PLA preserves the advantages of POM while ensuring the bio-based content of PLA. POM/PLA blends were prepared by an injection molding process with various injection speeds of 10, 50, 100, and 1000 mm/s to ensure high ductility. Mechanical property analysis showed that the PLA content and processing temperatures are highly effective in modifying the stiffness of POM/PLA blends. The effect of crystallization on POM/PLA blends was assessed by varying the annealing time. High-magnification scanning electron microscopy images revealed that the gaps between fibrillar regions represent the growth direction of the PLA phase before it was removed. This was evidence for the effect of PLA on the crystallization of POM. The crystal size and crystalline volume also affected the structural characteristics of POM/PLA blends.

Interest in biobased polymers from renewable resources has grown in recent years due to environmental concerns, but they still have a minimal fraction of the total global market. In this study, the injection molding of thermoplastic cellulose octanate (cellulose C8) and cellulose palmitate (cellulose C16) were studied. The mechanical properties of injection-molded test specimens were analyzed by using tensile testing, and the internal structure of injection-molded objects was studied by using a field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM). We showed that thermoplastic cellulose C8 and cellulose C16 were completely processable without the addition of a plasticizer, which is very unusual in the case of cellulose esters. The compatibility of cellulose esters with poly(lactic acid) (PLA) and biopolyethylene (bio-PE) was also tested. By compounding the cellulose esters with PLA, the elongation of PLA-based blends could be improved and the density could be reduced. The tested thermoplastic cellulose materials were fully biobased, and have good future potential to be used in injection molding applications.

the temperature control accuracy of polymer melt is the main factor affecting quality precision of final products. In this paper, we study the method of improving the precision of temperature control based on control system of micro injection molding machine. In order to avoid big overshoot in the traditional PID control, we use gradual approximation control method based on gradual approximation mathematical algorithm to realize fast and accurate temperature control of the micro injection molding machine. Experiment results show that effective combination of the traditional PID and gradual approximation method can realize accurate temperature control of micro injection molding machine, and precision of temperature control can be improved up to±0.5°C.
