Taro powder (TP) filled composites based on recycled high density polyethylene (RHDPE)/ ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) were prepared via melt blending method. Polyethylene-grafted-maleic anhydride (PE-g-MAH) was used as a compatibilizer to enhance interfacial bonding of RHDPE/EVA/TP composites. The effects of TP loading and the addition of PE-g-MAH on the tensile properties and thermal stability of RHDPE/EVA/TP composites were investigated and studied. Findings indicated that increased TP loading will reduce tensile strength and elongation at break while increasing the modulus of elasticity. The thermal stability of RHDPE/EVA/TP composites improved by increasing filler loading. With respect to both tensile properties and thermal stability, RHDPE/EVA/TP composites with PE-g-MAH performed better than the composites without the addition of compatibilizers.

The effect of electron beam irradiation on mechanical properties of Ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) with polyamide 6/high density polyethylene/HDPE-g-MAH and montmorillonite (MMT) were prepared by melt blending the characterization were investigated. The composites were characterized by Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectrophotometer and Thermogravimetric Analyzer (TGA) The samples were cross-linked by electron beam and irradiated at the dosage range of 0-200 kGy and 3.0 MeV. The mechanical properties of the samples which are tensile test and flexural test were measured by universal tensile machine whiles hardness was measured using Rockwell hardness tester. The gel content was performed to determine the formation of crosslinking and it showed improvement with increase dose up to 150 kGy. The result shows the increasing of tensile strength, tensile modulus, and hardness at the dosage 150 kGy but slightly decline at dose up to 200 kGy. Meanwhile TGA test showed that both irradiated and unirradiated samples have same trend characterization but irradiated samples are slightly more thermal stability. As a conclusion the electron beam irradiation enhance mechanical and thermal properties of ethylene vinyl acetate/polyamide 6/high density polyethylene nanocomposite.

This paper presents a part of research on the mechanical properties of compatibilized Poly (ethylene-co-vinyl acetate) (EVA)/ high density polyethylene (HDPE)/ organo modified montmorillonite (OMMT) nanocomposites prepared by melt mixing technique. Use of maleic anhydride grafted polyethylene (MA-g-PE) as Compatibilizer improves compatibility of EVA and HDPE. Blends containing EVA/HDPE blend with 2 phr MA-g-PE shows optimum properties. It observes that the addition of nanoclay improves the mechanical properties like tensile strength, flexural modulus, abrasion resistance and hardness of compatibilized nanocomposites systems. The morphology is studied by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). The optimized properties occurrs at clay loading levels of 4 phr with MA-g-PE system.

The effect of polyethylene grafted maleic anhydride as a compatibilizer on the tensile properties, and swelling behavior of recycled high density polyethylene/ethylene vinyl acetate/ waste tyre dust (r-HDPE/EVA/WTD) composites was studied. r-HDPE/EVA/WTD composites with different tyre dust loading and the addition of polyethylene grafted maleic anhydride (PEgMAH) were prepared with Brabender Plasticorder at temperature of 160°C and rotor speed of 50 rpm. The result indicated that r-HDPE/EVA/WTD/PEgMAH composites exhibit higher tensile strength, modulus of elasticity, and mass swell resistance than r-HDPE/EVA/WTD composites.
