A theorem on unique solvability in the sense of the strong solutions is proved for a class of degenerate multi-term fractional equations in Banach spaces. It applies to the deriving of the conditions on unique solution existence for an optimal control problem to the corresponding equation. Obtained results are used to an optimal control problem study for a model system which is described by an initial-boundary value problem for a partial differential equation.

There has been considerable recent interest in certain integral transform operators with non-singular kernels and their ability to be considered as fractional derivatives. Two such operators are the Caputo–Fabrizio operator and the Atangana–Baleanu operator. Here we present solutions to simple initial value problems involving these two operators and show that, apart from some special cases, the solutions have an intrinsic discontinuity at the origin. The intrinsic nature of the discontinuity in the solution raises concerns about using such operators in modelling. Solutions to initial value problems involving the traditional Caputo operator, which has a singularity inits kernel, do not have these intrinsic discontinuities.

We use the fractional derivatives in Caputo’s sense to construct exact solutions to fractional fifth order nonlinear evolution equations. A generalized fractional complex transform is appropriately used to convert this equation to ordinary differential equation which subsequently resulted in a number of exact solutions.

We establish a class of degenerate fractional differential equations involving delay arguments in Banach spaces. The system endowed by a given background and the generalized Showalter–Sidorov conditions which are natural for degenerate type equations. We prove the results of local unique solvability by using, mainly, the method of contraction mappings. The obtained theory via its abstract results is applied to the research of initial-boundary value problems for both Scott–Blair and modified Sobolev systems of equations with delays.

In the semigroup approach to stochastic evolution equations, the fundamental issue of uniqueness of mild solutions is often "reduced" to the much easier problem of proving uniqueness for strong solutions. This reduction is usually carried out in a formal way, without really justifying why and how one can do that. We provide sufficient conditions for uniqueness of mild solutions to a broad class of semilinear stochastic evolution equations with coefficients satisfying a monotonicity assumption.
