In this paper, the effect of the ambient temperature on the PV modules for different angles of inclinations and different intensities of the solar radiation on the surface of the PV module is considered by using empirical correlations for natural convection. An analytical model based on the energy balance equilibrium between the PV module and the environment conditions has been used. Also an expression for calculating the electric power of silicon PV modules in a function of the ambient temperature, the intensity of the solar radiation, the incident angle of the solar radiation to the surface of the PV module and the efficiency of the PV modules at STC conditions have been used. By comparing the obtained both results, it can be seen that the largest deviation between the power values obtained by the analytical model and expression is about (5 %). The results obtained indicates that in the case of a small number of PV modules corresponding to the required number for an average household, it is more economical to invest additional resources in increasing the PV module's surface area than in case of the PV module with sun tracking system.

As a renewable energy and clean energy source, solar power has great development potential. This paper presents the potential of solar radiation and ambient temperature characteristics can be used as alternative energy. All data collected using Davis Vantage Pro2 Weather Station at Centre of Engineering for Renewable Energy (CERE) in Kangar, Perlis. All data consist of daily and monthly average was analyzed. The result shows the average solar radiation and ambient temperature is high in the middle of the year 2013 which is from April to September. These results provide useful information for the design of solar energy system in order to plan the productive system.

Abstract One of the most promising renewable energy sources is solar energy due to low cost and low harmful emissions, and from the 1980s, one of the most beneficial applications of solar energy is the utilization of solar chimney power plants (SCPP). Recently, with the advancement in computer technology, the use of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) methodology for studying SCPP has become an extensive, robust, and powerful technique. In light of the above, in this study, numerical simulations of an SCPP through three-dimensional axisymmetric modeling is performed. A numerical model is created using CFD software, and the results are verified with an experimental study from the literature. The amount of solar radiation and surrounding weather (ambient temperature) were analyzed, and the effects of the irradiance and air temperature on the output power of the SCPP were studied. Ambient temperature is considered as one of the most important factors that influence collector efficiency in a negative or a positive manner. Solar irradiance is considered to be the most important factor that has an impact on SCPP performance. The investigation includes the study of the relationship between solar insolation and ambient temperatures during the daytime since the difference between the minimum and maximum power values and the performance are very important considering seasonal changes. According to the results, power values are dependent on the amount of solar radiation as well as the ambient temperature, and the importance of selection of location thus climate for an SCPP is found to affect the design of the SCPP.
