This paper presents the mechanical properties and performance of polyester grout as infill material for grouted connection in precast concrete. The mix proportions of polyester grout was properly designed and manufactured. The polymer binder with polymer additive was added together with filing materials of sand and fly ash. The binder to filler ratio was 0.43. Properties such as flowing ability and compression strength were studied by varying the level of fly ash in the mixtures. Also, to assess the efficacy of polyester grouted connections, three grouted connections were tested in direct tension. The test results show that, polyester resin grout with binder to filler ratio 0.43% and 16% fly ash perform satisfactorily. The polyester grout is suitable for use in the steel pipe splice connections.

This work deals with the development of a new composite based on mortar reinforced with optimally sized alfa fiber (AF). Experimental investigations of physical and thermo-mechanical properties of the new AF mortar composite are performed for AF weight fraction varying from 0% to 5%. This simple material preparation process is described and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) is undertaken to analyze the morphology of this composite. It shows a random dispersion of the AF into the mortar matrix. Physical properties such as open porosity, water absorption, and bulk density fluctuations with AF mass content are measured. Measured thermal conductivity is compared to the values generated by different prediction models. Good agreement, within 9.6%, is obtained with data predicted by Woodside–Messmer’s method. It is demonstrated that this simple blending of AF into mortar improves significantly the thermo-mechanical behavior of the new composite. An addition of 5% of AF weight content makes composite material lighter by about 15%, enhances its insulating thermal capabilities by about 57% and increases its heat diffusion damping rate by about 49%. Moreover, the composite mechanical (flexural and compressive) strength increases by up to 10% for an AF weight content of 1%.

The article presents the results of gas chromatographic analysis method of the organic part of oil bituminous rock and the results from the analysis of the molecular weight distribution of atactic polypropylene carried out using reverse gel-permeation chromatography. The research results of the structural and mechanical properties of the bitumen part of oil bituminous rock (OBR) of the Iman-Kara deposit, atactic polypropylene (APP) and compositions based on them, carried out on the instrument Reotest 2.1, are also presented herein. It has been determined that the organic part of OBR of the Iman-Kara deposit mainly consists of oxygen-containing organic compounds with additions of heteroatomic structures (sulfur, haloids and nitrogen) with a weight fraction of 53.97%. According to the chromatogram of the molecularly-mass distributed atactic polypropylene, it is found that the average time of fraction maximum yield is 11.4 minutes, the corresponding value of logarithm of the average molecular weight Lg(M) equals to 5.5. Accordingly, the average molecular weight of fraction M is 400. The change patterns of the rheological properties of the organic part of OBR, atactic polypropylene and compositions based on them are described. It has been established that the addition of APP to the organic part of OBR creates a disperse system in which the particles of a polymer additive that are swollen due to oily components are dispersed in the bitumen medium. At the same time, mechanical properties such as elasticity and heat resistance of the organic part of oil bituminous rock are improved. These properties can be shown only with the optimum quantity of APP, when their concentration is such that they form an uninterrupted net structure. The influence patterns of APP on the structure of the organic part of OBR defined in the process of experiments can also be used in further experiments during development of various types of waterproofing materials and coatings.
