[email protected] DOI: https://doi.org/10.33017/RevECIPeru2011.0039/ RESUMEN El presente estudio determina la incidencia de infección por Profilicollis altmani en 2,300 especímenes de Emerita analoga o “muy muy”, y su consumo por las personas que viven en lugares aledaños a playas del sur del departamento de Lima, desde la Costa Verde hasta la provincia de Cañete, durante los meses de octubre a diciembre del 2010, de los crustáceos recolectados 1,792 (77,91%) estaban infectados, para observar las larvas de Profilicollis altmani se procedió a la disección extrayendo el caparazón de los “muy muy” y dejando expuesto la cavidad hemocelomática, se encontró 3,979 larvas de acantocéfalos en estado de cistacantos como Profilicollis altmani con una abundancia media total de 1,73 (1-22). De las 500 personas encuestadas, el 25,8% consume “muy muy” en su alimentación, de este el 3,04% en forma de “cebiche”, 12,4% en forma de tortilla y 10% consume en otras formas. Podemos concluir que los “muy muy” de las playas del sur de Lima están altamente infectadas con Profilicollis altmani lo cual constituye un problema de salud Pública. SUMMARY This study determines the incidence of infection with Profilicollis altmani in 2,300 specimens of Emerita analoga or “muy muy", and its consumption by people living in near the South beaches of Peru, from the Costa Verde until the province of Cañete, during the months of october through december 2010.Collected crustaceans, 1,792 (77,91%) were infected. To see the larvae of Profilicollis altmani they proceeded to dissect by extracting the shell of the "muy muy" leaving exposed the hemocelomatica cavity founding 3,979, with an abundance average total of 1, 73 (1-22) with larvae of acanthocephala in cistacantos State such as Profilicollis altmani. From the 500 people surveyed, the 25, 8% consumed "muy muy" in their food. 25, 8% that consumed "muy muy", 3,04% consumed in “Ceviche”, 12,4% in omelets and 10% consumed in other forms. So, we can conclude that the "muy muy" from the South beaches in Lima are highly infected with Profilicollis altmani, which may be a health Public problem. The hypothesis that vital functions of one of the most successful macroinvertebrates of sandy beaches of Chile, the mole crab Emerita analoga are negatively affected by the environmental conditions of reflective beaches was tested. Twelve exposed sandy beaches distributed along 200 km of coast of central Chile, and selected to cover a wide morphodynamic spectrum were sampled every two months from April 1997 to November 1998. Significant phenotypic differences among local populations of the sand crab were detected. Important life history traits of the sand crab, linked to growth pattern, reproductive biology and burrowing capacity, were negatively affected by the environmental conditions of reflective beaches. The present results reinforce the view that environmental variations associated with beach morphodynamics, play a critical role in the life history patterns of sandy beach organisms.

The deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) content of spermatogenic cells of the decapod crab, Emerita analoga, has been cytophotometrically determined at various stages of development, using Feulgen-stained nuclei. The haploid DNA value is found to be 2.9 x 10–12 g, regardless of the nuclear histone content, which drops to cytochemically indetectable levels by sperm maturity. In determining this value, a precise extinction coefficient for Feulgen-stained nuclei was first determined using chicken, frog and toad erythrocyte nuclei and also nuclei from various rat tissues. The effect of naturally occurring nuclear histone depletion on the quantitative Feulgen reaction has also been examined. Identical hydrolysis curves and Feulgen spectral absorption curves are found for somatic nuclei, which contain a full histone complement, and for mature sperm nuclei, which do not contain histones. Loss of nuclear histone does not lead to a change in total Feulgen dye bound per nucleus, as early, middle and late spermatids have equal DNA contents as reflected by Feulgen binding, and primary spermatocytes contain 4 times this value, as expected from the DNA constancy law. The effect of histones (and other proteins) on quantitative Feulgen microspectrophotometry is discussed.
