The possibility of creating an automated car accident alert system has been studied. Existing solutions are considered, their basic advantages and disadvantages are analyzed. It is determined that a general disadvantage of most existing systems is the lack of support in many regions of the world. The solution to this problem is implemented in the presented system. This system has sup-ported different world regions, using the coordinates of the accident.

Although the importance of casual and spontaneous personal interaction in informal learning is generally well acknowledged, less is known about which world regions or countries have cultures of personal interaction that foster these characteristics. This information is important because without it policymakers struggle to select appropriate actions to improve learning and education. In this case study of China, the authors investigate the characteristics of personal interaction there and consider their effects on informal learning. They present a systematic reflection on the literature about the culture of personal interaction in China and how these interaction practices facilitate informal learning. China is strongly influenced by Confucianism, which with other cultural practices such as guanxi (??), shapes personal relations in unique ways that have important implications for informal learning. The authors hope that this analysis sets a precedent for future studies about China and other parts of the world.

Land degradation usually occurs on drylands (arid, semiarid, and dry subhumid areas). According to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification held in Paris in 1994 (UNCCD, 1999), drylands are defined as those lands (other than polar and subpolar regions) where the ratio of annual precipitation to potential evapotranspiration falls within the range of 0.05–0.65. Land degradation causes reduction in the biological or economic productivity of those lands that may support cropland, rangelands, forest, and woodlands. Land degradation threatens culturally unique agropastoral and silvopastoral farming systems and nomadic and transhumance systems. The consequences of land degradation are widespread poverty, hunger, migration, and creation of a potential cycle of debt for the affected populations. Historical awareness of the land degradation was cited, mainly at the local and regional scales, by Plato in the 4th century B.C in the Mediterranean region, and in Mesopotamia and China (WRI, 2001). The occurrence of the “dust bowl” in the United States during the 1930s affected farms and agricultural productivity, and several famines and mass migrations, especially in Africa during the 1970s, were important landmarks of land degradation in the 20th century. It is estimated that more than 33% of the earth’s land surface and 2.6 billion people are affected by land degradation and desertification in more than 100 countries. About 73% of rangelands in dryland areas and 47% of marginal rain-fed croplands, together with a significant percentage of irrigated croplands, are currently degraded (WRI, 2001). In sub-Saharan Africa, land degradation is widespread (20–50% of the land) and affects some 200 million people. This region experiences poverty and frequent droughts on a scale not known anywhere else in the world. Land degradation is also severe and widespread in Asia, Latin America, as well as other regions of the globe. Continuous land degradation is accelerating the loss of agricultural productivity and food production in the world. Over the next 50 years, food production needs to triple in order to provide a nutritionally adequate diet for the world’s growing population. This will be difficult to achieve even under favorable circumstances.

This chapter examines the international legal regime on land degradation. It first provides a brief overview of land degradation as a complex environmental issue around the world before discussing the causes and effects of land degradation. It then analyses a variety of legal responses to land degradation, from global initiatives such as the Convention to Combat Desertification, the Convention on Biological Diversity, the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, and the IUCN Covenant on Environment and Development; regional initiatives such as the World Soil Charter 2014 and the UN Sustainable Development Goals 2015; and national laws and policies. The chapter also explores some of the main elements that need to be taken into consideration when designing legislation to address land degradation, including land tenure, access to land, farming systems and land use, the role of protected areas, and physical planning.

By highlighting the lack of rigorous evidence and calling for a greater understanding of the interaction of the two processes, a recent study [Nelson et al. (1997)] has called into question the strong perception that poverty is both a consequence as well as a cause of resource degradation.1 This perception which is widely held is strongly evident in the writings of the multilateral development agencies such as the World Bank (1990) and IFAD (1992) and exists despite extensive reviews which indicate that the short- and long-term implications of land degradation are not very clear [see Scherr and Yadav (1995)]. Similarly, while knowledge about poverty is expanding rapidly, thanks in large parts to the massive international focus and resources brought to bear on its understanding in the past ten.........................

In this paper, I discuss the evolving idea of the ―One World‖ as articulated in Wolfgang Sachs‘ article (1992), which was derived from the principles of the 1945 UN Charter. The paper also presents an insightful discussion on the recent crisis of perception in the three ‗world regions‘ which are dominating the development discourse i.e. the Unites States, Europe and China. It argues that this is primarily a crisis of perception; ―the world has turned into a mirror, which reflects a reality of us, which is constructed by experts of the system‖. It argues that placeless cultural knowledge has transformed our reality into a reality which lacks a place. We are stuck in our space - centered belief systems and we are everywhere and nowhere at the same time. The paper concludes that universalism has made us to be alone in space, knowing about the whole world, but at the same time unable to feel the connection to this world. We have lost presence, the ability to perceive our body and therefore the relation to the earth

This paper expands the framework of the Bourdieusian field theory using a world-system theoretical perspective to analyze the global system of social sciences, or what might be called the world-system of knowledge production. The analysis deals with the main agents of the world-system of social sciences, and it also investigates the core-like and periphery-like processes of the system. Our findings affirm that a very characteristic center-periphery structure exists in global social sciences, with a few hegemonic countries and distinctly peripheral world regions. Our analysis not just presents empirical data on power structures in global social sciences but it also offers meaningful typologies for analysis of the roles different world regions play in maintaining the world-system of global knowledge production. The paper also proposes a three-dimensional model by which both geographical and social/institutional center-periphery relations may be analyzed.

Land degradation has emerged as a serious problem during the last few decades. Soil fertility has declined considerably in many parts of the world due to intensive agriculture, over-grazing, water pollution, increasing use of fertilizers and pesticides, salinization, deforestation and accumulation of non-biodegradable waste. Vast tracts of land are facing desertification. Climate change is further aggravating land degradation, soil erosion and soil fertility. Evidence suggests during the last 6-7 decades over 35 percent of arable land has been degraded due to human induced activities. Soil being the natural medium for plant growth supports all life on earth. Rapidly increasing population, growing food-waste and declining soil fertility are posing serious challenges to humanity for future food security. Therefore, land degradation must come to a halt. Education, changes in agricultural policy and technological innovations are instruments that should be used for restoration of degraded land and stop further land degradation.
