High purity barium titanate BaTiO3 was successfully synthesized by using the sol-gel technique. Barium acetate Ba(CH3COO)2 and tetrabutyl titanate, Ti(C4H9O)4 was dissolved moderately in the solvent of glacial acetic acid and ethanol was added as the chemical modifier. The synthesized BaTiO3 nanoparticle was calcined at the temperature range of 700 ºC to 1100 ºC. The powders were further characterized by X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Fined BaTiO3 powders result indicates the phase of tetragonal structures and high crystallites of BaTiO3. It was observed that the crystallinity and particle size of BaTiO3 is greatly influenced by the calcination temperature.

BNBT (0.94[(Bi0.5Na0.5)TiO3]-0.06BaTiO3) nanopowders were prepared starting from an aqueous solution of inorganic salts (barium acetate, bismuth nitrate, sodium nitrate and titanium isopropoxide) either by the citrate- nitrate sol-gel combustion (SGC) or by spray drying (SD). Their chemical and microstructural properties were compared with the ones of the same system obtained by mechanical mixing of oxides (SSCO). The SD and SGC powders require temperatures 150 and 300?C lower than SSCO powder to form the perovskite phase. The chemical and physical properties of the obtained powders strongly depend on the considered chemical route. Therefore the subsequent sintering step and consequently the microstructure of the obtained ceramics differ significantly. The microstructures as well the piezoelectric properties of the sintered SGC, SD, SSCO samples are investigated and a critical comparison is presented. .

BaCe0.9Yb0.1O3−α was prepared via the sol-gel method using zirconium nitrate, ytterbium trioxide, cerium nitrate and barium acetate as raw materials. Subsequently, it reacted with the binary NaCl~KCl salt to obtain BaCe0.9Yb0.1O3−α-NaCl~KCl composite electrolyte. The structure, morphology, conductivity and fuel cell performance of the obtained samples were investigated. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) images showed that BaCe0.9Yb0.1O3−α and NaCl~KCl combined with each other to form a homogeneous 3-D reticulated structure. The highest power density and conductivity of BaCe0.9Yb0.1O3−α-NaCl~KCl was 393 mW·cm−2 and 3.0 × 10−1 S·cm−1 at 700 °C, respectively.

Barium Titanate Nanoparticles

A solvothermal method to synthesize barium titanate nanoparticles is employed. In this method many raw materials such as oleic acid, surfactant, sodium hydroxide, alkali barium acetate, alcohol, tetrabutyl titanate are used. When the samples are collected, oleic acid which has mush an account will cover the whole particles. To make the samples cleaner, nitric acid is used to transition oleic acid to elaidic acid which is lighter than water then it will float up to be removed. In the progress to wash off the oleic acid the particles were found to reunite unusually: bigger and cubic particles are formed and the shape seems like single crystal but they are reunitions indeed, we used HTEM to prove this. It means self–assembling might happen through the progress, the spontaneous polarization orient, polarity of molecules will affect this progess.
