Abstract Prepared powder polyhydroxybutyrate – chitosan - calcium phosphate composite system with 10 wt % of biopolymer component can be utilized as biocement which is characterized by the prolonged setting time and achieves wash out resistance after 5 minutes of setting. The origin powder tetracalcium phosphate/nanomonetite agglomerates were coated with the thin layer of biopolymer which decelerates both the transformation rate of calcium phosphates and hardening process of composites. The porosity of hardened composite was around 62% and the compressive strength (8 MPa) was close to trabecular bone. No cytotoxicity of composite resulted from live/dead staining of osteoblasts cultured on substrates.

The sol-gel method produced composite calcium-phosphate coatings on a silicon substrate (model) and on the oxidized surface of titanium. The films were prepared using sol-gel technology, which includes the following processing steps: preparation of the film-forming solution (including the solvent preparation step: purification, drying); aging of the film-forming solution for its maturation (formation in sol solution); application of the film-forming solution to the substrate (the article to be coated), including the surface preparation of the product (cleaning, degreasing); reception of dispersed materials. The films were obtained by stretching and centrifugation; heat treatment of the coated product (at the same time, the product can be annealed to relieve internal stresses). In the production of films by various methods, the character of the distribution of drift-like protrusions along the surface of the sample changes. The most regular character of roughness (relief) is the samples obtained by drawing, which is important for the practical application of coatings. The relief of the surface is lower and most developed with sufficiently uniformly arranged crystalline formations for samples obtained by drawing. For the oxidized surface of titanium, the protrusions of more than 2 μm and the maximum height of 6 μm occupy the most part, when the film is applied to the oxidized surface of titanium, the proportion of protrusions more than 2 μm decreases by half. The sol-gel coating alters the morphology of the oxidized surface of titanium. The oxidized surface of titanium has a pronounced array of protrusions, when the sol-gel coating is applied, the relief is supplemented with a structured sol-gel film. When titanium oxide is introduced into the calcium phosphate system, the relief is improved and complemented, and the adhesive properties of the oxidized titanium surface are enhanced.

The main highlights in this paper are about investigation of cation-dopped cements based on the calcium phosphate —magnesium phosphate system with a ratio of (Ca + Mg) / P = 2 containing 40 mol. % Mg for application in the reconstructive surgery. The powders were synthesized by the method of deposition from a salt solution, the powders were certified using the X-ray phaseanalysis (XRD), the main phases were the magnesium-substituted vitlokite phase (Ca2,589Mg0,411PO4), magnesium oxide MgO, and stanfeldite (Mg3Ca3(PO4)4. The setting time of cement samples with mixing phosphate fluid is 6–9 min; the high mechanical properties are exhibited by the samples with a content of 0,5 mass % Zn (26,5 ± 1,3 MPa).

This work reports the structure of two glass ceramics prepared in the calcium phosphate system, MK5B and MT13B, using 31P MAS-NMR technique. The results obtained showed that the network of MK5B consisted mainly of Q1 and Q2 groups. Besides these two groups, MT13B material also present Q3 units. The Qn groups detected in both glass ceramics seem to be correlated to the crystalline phases present in their microstructure.
