Poly(ethylene terephthalate-co-ethylene sebacate) copolyeste đã được tổng hợp theo quá trình gồm hai giai đoạn tương tự như quá trình tổng hợp polyeste. Tiến trình tổng hợp, đặc biệt là quá trình trùng ngưng được khảo sát bằng phổ hồng ngoại đã chỉ rõ được sự hình thành copolyeste bởi phản ứng giữa nhóm carboxyl và nhóm hydroxyl của glycol. Cấu trúc của copolyeste cũng đã được chứng minh bằng phổ cộng hưởng từ 1H NMR cho thấy, tỷ lệ terephthalate/sebacate trong cấu trúc mạch chính tương đương với tỷ lệ tiền chất sử dụng. Hai hệ xúc tác khác nhau cho quá trình tổng hợp gồm tetrabutyl titanate (TBT) và Sb2­O3/Zn(Ac)2 được so sánh cho thấy, hiệu quả xúc tác của TBT là tốt hơn so với Sb2­O3/Zn(Ac)2.
