Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to investigate the relationship between altruistic leader behaviors, organizational learning capability and organizational performance. Design/methodology/approach – The sampling frame consists of several databases or listings of business that consider people as a key element of the organization and are considered by their employees to be good firms to work for or organizational environments where human resources management has high priority (n=251). The authors use structural equation modeling to test if the relationship between altruistic leader behaviors and organizational performance is mediated by organizational learning capability. Findings – Results suggest that organizational learning capability fully mediates between altruistic leader behaviors and organizational performance. Thus, organizational learning capability plays a key role in explaining how altruistic leader behaviors affect organizational performance, essentially because it facilitates the creation of a creative, participatory and dialogue-based environment that promotes organizational learning. Research limitations/implications – The database used in the study is very heterogeneous. Future research might delimit the database by organization size or sector. Qualitative studies may also improve our understanding of the relationships studied and enable other concepts to be included. Practical implications – This study provides evidence of the positive relationship between altruistic leaders and performance. However, recruiting and fomenting altruistic leaders is not sufficient on its own to improve performance, and should be accompanied by implementing other facilitating factors of organizational learning such as dialogue or experimentation. Originality/value – In recent years some studies have linked leadership with organizational learning. However, this is one of the first studies to concentrate on altruistic leader behaviors as such, a concept that has received scant mention in the literature despite its importance in a number of leadership styles, and its relevance today as an alternative to the egotistic leader. The authors offer empirical evidence of the role of altruistic leader behavior as an antecedent of organizational learning capability and subjective measures of performance.

Blockchain technology (BCT) has been gaining popularity due to its benefits for almost every industry. However, despite its benefits, the organizational adoption of BCT is rather limited. This lack of uptake motivated us to identify the factors that influence the adoption of BCT from an organizational perspective. In doing this, we reviewed the BCT literature, interviewed BCT experts, and proposed a research model based on the TOE framework. Specifically, we theorized the role of technological (perceived benefits, compatibility, information transparency, and disintermediation), organizational (organization innovativeness, organizational learning capability, and top management support), and environmental (competition intensity, government support, trading partners readiness, and standards uncertainty) factors in the organizational adoption of BCT in Australia. We confirmed the model with a sample of adopters and potential adopter organizations in Australia. The results show a significant role of the proposed factors in the organizational adoption of BCT in Australia. Additionally, we found that the relationship between the influential factors and BCT adoption is moderated by “perceived risks”. The study extends the TOE framework by adding factors that were ignored in previous studies on BCT adoption, such as perceived information transparency, perceived disintermediation, organizational innovativeness, organizational learning capability, and standards uncertainty.

Focusing on the importance of innovation culture to the growth of firms, the study examined the effect of transformational leadership on the innovation culture of firms in the service industry in Ghana. The study further assessed the moderating role of organizational learning capability and market dynamism. A sample of 210 employees in the telecommunication, banking and insurance, tourism and hospitality sectors were surveyed. A quantitative research approach was employed to test the various relationships. The findings indicated that transformational leadership had a significant and positive relationship with innovation culture. The findings further revealed that the relationship between transformational leadership and innovation culture was positively enhanced by market dynamism. Organizational learning capability which had two dimensions, that is, interaction with external environment and dialogue had a partial moderating effect on innovation culture. The study provides executives with critical insights on the need to allow employees to make some decisions where necessary and also trust in their decision and not always control the work tightly from the top; as such micromanaging could have adverse impact on the firm’s innovation drive and culture. The researcher contributes to extant literature by finding the moderating role of market dynamism and learning capability on the effect of transformational leadership and innovation culture in an organisation specifically in the service industry of an emerging country.

The Relationship

Innovation has become critical success factor in many industries today and numerous scholars approve that it could be achieved through learning in organizations. Despite the availability of numerous researches on innovativeness and organizational learning in international context, there are limited studies that analyze the effect of learning on innovativeness in context of Pakistan. Specifically, the research is limited regarding mediating role of organizational learning between knowledge management, teamwork, emotional capability, and innovativeness; and the main purpose of this study was to fill this research gap. This study draws its framework mainly from resource based view, knowledge based view, and dynamic capability perspective. For this research, data was obtained through survey from managers in Pakistani SMEs operating in multiple sectors. The study performed its analyses using SmartPLS 3.0 based on 149 responses. The study concludes that organizational learning significantly mediates the relationship between knowledge management, teamwork, emotional capability, and innovativeness. The study provides valuable information for Pakistani SMEs about how they could enhance their innovative capability through learning capability.
