Health services provided by foundations in the pre-Republic period became more systematic and organized after the foundation of the Turkish Republic. Healthcare services, offered by the state in the period between 1920 and 1980 and accepted as one of the main duties of the state, became one of the areas in which the state wanted to withdraw after 1980. As a result of the neoliberal wave in the globalized world, policies aimed at downsizing healthcare services in Turkey have been developed and implemented since the 1980s. Accelerated downsizing practices by the Health Transformation Project (2003) continues today. In this study, literature review and descriptive analysis method were used.The aim of this study is to discuss the downsizing practices in the health sector of Turkey. This debate will take place over two periods (before 2002 and after 2002). Especially, the post-2002 period and works on behalf of health sector downsizing in this period will be discussed as to whether there is downsizing or not.

The Impact

Purpose The complexity and criticality of healthcare services highlight the importance of maintenance management function in healthcare facilities. The purpose of this paper is to review the literature on maintenance management of healthcare facilities and hospital buildings to provide an organized literature review and identify gaps from the perspective of research and practice. Design/methodology/approach The paper categorizes the literature and adopts a review hierarchy according to maintenance management functions in hospital buildings. It explores the impact of those functions on the performance of maintenance activities in hospitals. Furthermore, it examines the role of information technology and automated decision support systems in facilitating hospital maintenance management functions and performance. Findings Literature on maintenance management in healthcare facilities and hospital buildings has so far been very limited. Recently published literature focusing on healthcare facilities management and its maintenance management functions is classified into various areas and sub-areas. The paper highlights gaps in the literature and suggests avenues for future research and improvements. Originality/value The paper contains a comprehensive listing of publications and their classifications according to various attributes. It will be useful for researchers, maintenance managers, practitioners and stakeholders concerned with facility management of hospital buildings.

Health conditions in Pakistan are very bad. Government and non-governmental organizations are trying to meet international standard of health services. Some healthcare providers are educated, trained and certified from the government but some are unqualified and not certified. In this research two national newspapers are analyzed the daily Jang Urdu and the daily Dawn English. These newspapers cover healthcare services such as indoor patient, outdoor patient maternity and other health services in news stories. These services are also seen in the Literature Review. The researcher analyzed on coverage of healthcare in newspapers the daily Jang and the daily Dawn. This research has been performed by using content analysis technique under quantitative methodology. Media agenda setting theory was adopted in the theoretical framework as in the literature review. The statistical analyses of data analysis have been done in the form of frequency distribution and correlation analysis. SPSS is used to analyze the content of data. The results show that daily Jang is giving more coverage to health-related news stories than daily Dawn.

Background: Nigeria records high maternal deaths despite available antenatal care services in the country. This review aims to synthesise literature on barriers affecting access to midwife-led antenatal care (ANC) among pregnant women in Nigeria.Methods: This is a systematic literature review and involved searching of studies done in Nigeria and published between 2007 and 2018. MEDLINE 1946 to present, CINAHL, JBI, and Pubmed Central were electronically searched to identify studies on barriers affecting access to midwife-led ANC among pregnant women in Nigeria. Reference lists were hand-searched, Grey literature; Google scholar, and NuSearch e-dissertation were also searched.  Citation chaining was also used. Twenty articles met the inclusion and exclusion criteria while only seven out of the twenty were included in the review after quality appraisal.Results: The data synthesis of the literature review showed disproportionate absence of the use of midwife-led ANC in this population. Several barriers were identified in the various works reviewed. The identified core barriers are economic relating to issues like high costs of services, poverty, unemployment, financial barriers; personal barrier relates to lack of autonomy, greater convenience of using other services and personal preference, low maternal educational levels, lack of information on healthcare services/ignorance about required health services, maternal age, marital status, parity/number of children; environmental relates to distance to health facility, location of residence/rural dwellers, geographical location, lack of transportation, and farness of ANC service provider; and cultural barriers relates to husband’s permission, culture of patriarchy, traditional beliefs, cultural sensitivity, cultural perception of the role of TBAs, ethnicity.Conclusions: This review highlights the need to thoroughly explore and address context-based barriers affecting access to midwife-led ANC in order to make safe motherhood a reality in Nigeria. The principal solution to these identified barriers is antenatal education by midwives which will help to empower women thereby increasing their access to midwife-led ANC. \textit{Recommendations:} Government/Policy makers should allocate sufficient fund to maternal healthcare and health promotion. They should improve ANC use by making it available, accessible and affordable to all women in Nigeria irrespective of their area of residence. Also incorporate in the educational curriculum of the approved schools of midwifery in Nigeria the suggested midwifery strategies such as named midwife, team midwife, caseload midwifery.Midwives should avail themselves of update courses in midwifery; play the necessary roles of a midwife especially being women-centered; develop interest in conducting midwifery research and using the best available evidence in their practice.

(1) Background: Immigrants represent around 21.9% of the total population in Canada and encounter multifaceted obstacles in accessing and receiving primary healthcare. This literature review explores patient experiences in primary care from the perspective of immigrants and identifies areas for further research and improvement. (2) Methods: A comprehensive search was performed on PubMed, MEDLINE, Embase, SCOPUS, and Google scholar to identify studies published from 2010 to July 2020. Relevant articles were peer-reviewed, in English language, and reported patient experiences in primary healthcare in Canada. (3) Results: Of the 1566 searched articles, 19 articles were included in this review. Overall, the finding from articles were summarized into four major themes: cultural and linguistic differences; socioeconomic challenges; health system factors; patient–provider relationship. (4) Conclusion: Understanding the gaps to accessing and receiving appropriate healthcare is important to shape policies, enhance the quality of services, and deliver more equitable healthcare services. It is therefore pertinent that primary healthcare providers play an active role in bridging these gaps with strong support from policymakers. Understanding and respecting diversity in culture, language, experiences, and systems is crucial in reducing health inequalities and improving access to quality care in a respectful and responsive manner.

IntroductionEngaging family caregivers could be a critical asset to make the ‘ageing-in-place’ imperative a reality. This is particularly evident in rural and remote areas, where caregivers can fill the gaps that exist due to the fragmentation of the welfare system. However, there is little knowledge about the expectations that family caregivers have from healthcare services in rural and remote areas.Place4Carers (P4C) project aims to co-produce an innovative organisational model of social and healthcare services for family caregivers of older citizens living in Vallecamonica (Italy). The project is expected to facilitate ageing-in-place for older citizens, thus helping caregivers in their daily care activities.Methods and analysisP4C is a community-based participatory research project featuring five work packages (WPs). WP1 consists of a survey of unmet needs of caregivers and older people receiving services in Vallecamonica. WP2 consists of a scoping literature review to map services that provide interventions of support to caregivers living in remote areas and promote engagement. WP3 organises co-creation workshops with caregivers to co-design, co-manage, and co-assess ideas and proposals for shaping caregiver-oriented services and organisational models. WP3 enriches the results of WP1 (survey) and WP2 (scoping literature review), and aims to co-create new ideas for intervention support with and for caregivers in relation to the objectives, features and characteristics of a new service able to address the caregivers’ needs and expectations. WP4 tests the service ideas co-created in WP3 through piloting an intervention based on ideas co-created with caregivers. Finally, WP5 assesses the transferability of the intervention to other similar contexts.Ethics and disseminationThe study has been approved by the Ethics Committees of the Department of Psychology of Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore and Politecnico of Milan. Results will be disseminated through peer-reviewed journals, scientific meetings and meetings with the general population.

IntroductionAcquired brain injury (ABI) in paediatrics refers to children born with a neurological deficit, which will lead to a chronic neurological disorder. As advances in medical paediatric health progress, we are seeing these ABI youth transitioning into adult healthcare services while also going through different life events. Despite the growing number of young adult patients, access to transition programmes to facilitate the transition process is still limited and evidence on the effectiveness of these programmes is inconclusive. The purpose of this paper is to provide the protocol for an upcoming systematic literature review on this important issue.Methods and analysisThe start of this systematic literature review is planned for 1 October 2019 and will end on 31 December 2021. According to the PICO framework developed, the Population and the Problem of interest (P) will include children, adolescents and young adults (0–18 years) diagnosed with ABI. The selected articles will have to involve an Intervention (I) relating to the healthcare of this population or life transitions from paediatric to adult-oriented care. Studies will be included if a Comparator (C) intervention was used. The expected Outcomes (O) will have to report quantitative or qualitative health-related outcomes post-transition. This comprehensive search of peer-reviewed literature will include articles published between 2010 and 2020. The databases to be searched include Medline, All EBM Reviews, Embase, PsycINFO and CINAHL. The selected articles will be appraised using the Mixed Methods Appraisal Tool. A synthesis of the findings will be drafted to identify the effectiveness of available transition programmes as well as predictors, factors and determinants involved in the transition process.Ethics and disseminationThis project is not associated with direct individuals. The dissemination plan includes strategies such as using this systematic literature review to develop a research project on transition that will be published.
