AbstractMicroporous metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) based on lanthanide metal ions or clusters represent a group of porous materials, featuring interesting coordination, electronic, and optical properties. These attractive properties in combination with the porosity make microporous lanthanide MOFs (Ln-MOFs) hold the promise for various applications. This review is to provide an overview of the current status of the research in microporous Ln-MOFs, and highlight their potential as types of multifunctional materials for applications in gas/solvent adsorption and separation, luminescence and chemical sensing and catalysis.

A new 3D luminescence LnMOF was synthesized using a tripodal flexible zwitterion ligand which takes a chair-shaped configuration. The compound displays highly selective luminescence sensing of the Fe3+ ion and nitrobenzene.

Two novel 12-connected 3D porous lanthanide–organic frameworks have been synthesized by the reaction of bipyridine-carboxylate ligand bpydbH2 and lanthanide metal ions. Both of them show a high proton conduction behavior as well as their composite membranes.

The reaction of Pr (III) and Nd (III) metal ions with some substituted pyrazoles, at 0.1M ionic strength and at 30 ± 0.10C in 70% acetone-water mixture and 70% propanol-water mixture have been studied pH-metrically. The data obtained were used to estimate the values of proton-ligand (pK) and metal-ligand (logK) stability constants in different solvents. It is observed that the pK and logK values in 70% propanol-water mixture are grater than in 70% acetone -water mixture. Pr (III) and Nd (III) metal ions formed 1:1 and 1:2 complexes with all the ligands in both solvent medium.
