In this article, we present the numerical analysis of a Free Standing Riser. The numerical simulation was carried out using a commercial riser analysis software suit. The numerical model’s dimensions were the same of a 1/70 reduced scale model deployed in a previous experiment. The numerical results were compared with experimental results presented in a previous article [1]. Discussion about the model and limitations of the numerical analysis is included.

This study used experimental and numerical simulation methods to discuss the attenuation mechanism of a blast inside a tunnel for different forms of a tunnel pressure reduction module under the condition of a tunnel near-field explosion. In terms of the experiment, a small-scale model was used for the explosion experiments of a tunnel pressure reduction module (expansion chamber, one-pressure relief orifice plate, double-pressure relief orifice plate). In the numerical simulation, the pressure transfer effect was evaluated using the ALE fluid–solid coupling and mapping technique. The findings showed that the pressure attenuation model changed the tunnel section to diffuse, reduce, or detour the pressure transfer, indicating the blast attenuation effect. In terms of the effect of blast attenuation, the double-pressure relief orifice plate was better than the one-pressure relief orifice plate, and the single-pressure relief orifice plate was better than the expansion chamber. The expansion chamber attenuated the blast by 30%, the one-pressure relief orifice plate attenuated the blast by 51%, and the double-pressure relief orifice plate attenuated the blast by 82%. The blast attenuation trend of the numerical simulation result generally matched that of the experimental result. The results of this study can provide a reference for future protective designs and reinforce the U.S. Force regulations.

The steel plate reinforced concrete (SC) walls and roofs are effective protective structures in nuclear power plants against aircraft attacks. The mechanical behavior of the concrete in SC panels is very complicated when SC panels are under the action of impacting loading. This paper presents a dynamic material model for concrete subjected to high-velocity impact, in which pressure hardening, strain rate effect, plastic damage, and tensile failure are taken into account. The loading surface of the concrete undergoing plastic deformation is defined based on the extended Drucker–Prager strength criterion and the Johnson–Cook material model. The associated plastic flow rule is utilized to evaluate plastic strains. Two damage parameters are introduced to characterize, respectively, the plastic damage and tensile failure of concrete. The proposed concrete model is implemented into the transient nonlinear dynamic analysis code ls-dyna. The reliability and accuracy of the present concrete material model are verified by the numerical simulations of standard compression and tension tests with different confining pressures and strain rates. The numerical simulation of the impact test of a 1/7.5-scale model of an aircraft penetrating into a half steel plate reinforced concrete (HSC) panel is carried out by using ls-dyna with the present concrete model. The resulting damage pattern of concrete slab and the predicted deformation of steel plate in the HSC panel are in good agreement with the experimental results. The numerical results illustrate that the proposed concrete model is capable of properly charactering the tensile damage and failure of concrete.

AbstractParameterizing the incoming longwave radiationL↓ in terms of the fourth power of the absolute temperature at the reference height is used in glaciology for several purposes. In this paper, the validity of this kind of parameterization is investigated for the Greenland ice sheer, both by observations and by numerical simulation with a meso-scale model, It is found that such a parameterization severely underestimates the increase ofL↓ in response to large-scale warming in an area where surface melting is important. This is explained by the systematic influence that is exerted on the shape of the temperature profiles by surface melting.

In this paper, the construction technology for main pylon of cable-stayed bridge is researched through test of full-scale model of anchorage zone of pylon of Guangzhou Bridge. Stress distribution and deformation condition of model under prestressed tendons and cable force are analyzed. Numerical simulation on this anchorage zone model is carried out. By comparing FEM results to the test results, some important conclusions are drawn out and give some advices to the optimum design of the bridge pylon. Parts of the achievements have been applied to actual bridge work and obtained successful engineering experience.

This paper presents the calculation of hydrodynamic characteristics of two side-by-side cylinders of different diameters in three dimensional incompressible uniform cross flow by using Large-eddy simulation method based on dynamical Smagorinsky-Lilly sub-grid scale model. Solution of the three dimensional N-S equations were obtained by the finite volume method. The numerical simulation focused on investigating the characteristic of the pressure distribution (drag and lift force), vorticity field and turbulence Re=. Results shows that, the asymmetry of the time –averaged velocity distribution in the flow direction behind the two cylinders is very obvious; the frequency of eddy shedding of the small cylinder is about twice of the large one. The turbulence of cylinders is more obvious.
