The objective of this study is to characterize the permanent deformations and to present a mathematical model that enables the prediction of permanent strain during cyclic loading. First, laboratory cyclic triaxial tests are conducted on sandy silty clay samples to gather the data concerning the permanent deformation characteristics. The article discusses the shakedown theory and abation phenomena, and we present the Simple Hysteresis Loop Model (SHLM) based on the stress-controlled test results. The determined permanent deformation properties are a base for the development of SHLM parameters. The presented model is capable of accurately predicting the permanent deformation characteristics based on the derived parameters from the static tests. The SHLM connects the stress–strain and stiffness properties of cohesive soil, which gives it a great advantage to use it in engineering practice. The derived model was verified based on ex–post comparison to performed cyclic triaxial test. The developed SHLM mean absolute percentage error is equal to 12.18%, which indicates that the developed SHLM has desirable accuracy in the prediction of permanent strain properties in compacted cohesive soils.

This paper focuses on the position/force tracking control problem for constrained multiple flexible joint manipulators system with nonlinear input of hysteresis loop. Firstly, the dynamic model is given in the task space and the input of hysteresis loop model is approximated by a differential equation. Secondly, considering the disturbance with unknown bounds, a robust adaptive control strategy based on the sliding mode which consists of constraint force error and position error is designed. The proposed approach can not only compensate the model error, external disturbance, and flexible parameter uncertainties, but also drive the closed-loop system variables to reach the sliding model surface. Then it can be proved that both position and constraint force errors can be guaranteed to converge to zero. Finally, the simulation results can verify the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Hysteresis characteristics of grain-oriented electrical steel were studied through the hysteresis loop. Existing hysteresis fitting simulation methods were summarized, and new Fe-3% Si grain-oriented electrical steel hysteresis loop model was proposed. Undetermined coefficients of the magnetic field intensity and magnetic flux density were determined by both the fixed angle method and the least squares method, and the hysteresis loop model was validated with high fitting degree by experimental data.

SummaryDexamethasone decreases the fibrinolytic activity in cultured medium of several cell types by an induction of PAI-1 synthesis. As a result of this enhanced PAI-1 synthesis a prothrombotic state is expected in patients treated with dexamethasone. However, such a prothrombotic state is not reported as a major adverse effect. We have studied the effects of dexamethasone (dose range: 0.1–3.0 mg/kg) on the fibrinolytic system of rats after a 5 day pretreatment period. It appeared that dexamethasone dose dependently decreased the fibrinolytic activity (a dose of 1 mg/kg showed a reduction of about 40%). This reduced fibrinolytic activity could be functionally translated into an increased thrombus size as measured with a venous thrombosis model: thrombus size was increased by 50% with 1 mg/kg dexamethasone. No effects could be measured on the coagulation system, but it appeared that ex-vivo measured platelet aggregation was dose dependently inhibited by dexamethasone treatment. This effect resulted in-vivo in prolonged obstruction times as measured with a modified aorta-loop model. These results indicate that the expected prothrombotic state due to a diminished fibrinolytic activity caused by dexamethasone is counterbalanced by an inhibition of platelet aggregation.
