Here we demonstrate for the first time the splitting of dioxygen at RT over distant binuclear transition metal (M = Ni, Mn, and Co) centers stabilized in ferrierite zeolite. Cleaved...

Mixtures of methane and oxygen behave in a reproducible manner at temperatures of 440 to 520°C and initial pressures of 100 to 350 mm when reacting in Pyrex vessels freshly cleaned with hydrofluoric acid. The apparent order of the reaction ranged from 2∙3 to 2∙6 and the overall activation energy from 29 to 41 kcal/mole. Analyses of the products formed have been made, together with measurements of pressure change. Formaldehyde is formed from the commencement of the reaction including the induction period, but its concentration reaches a maximum near the stage where the pressure rise is a maximum, and then falls off. Hydrogen peroxide is also formed, less rapidly in the earliest stage, but its rate of formation overtakes that of formaldehyde and it reaches an even higher concentration. No other peroxides were detected, nor was methanol found. Hydrogen was present in the gaseous products. These observations are not in full accord with some of the conclusions derived from earlier investigations.

AbstractThis paper analyses alternative routes for production of chemicals from different hydrocarbon gases by their direct, without syngas production, oxidative conversion to oxygenates or ethylene. Main of these routes are direct oxidation of methane to methanol (DMTM) and selective oxy-cracking of heavier natural or associated petroleum gas components which can be used for production of high value-added petrochemicals (in combination with carbonylation processes) and fuel gases, useful for gas piston engines. The advantages and practical capabilities of such technologies are discussed.

Abstract In this paper, 2,5-furandicarboxylic acid (FDCA) was efficiently prepared by the direct oxidation of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (5-HMF) using hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) in alkaline conditions without any catalysts. The effects of reaction parameters on the process were systematically investigated and the optimal parameters were obtained as follows: molar ratio of 5-HMF:KOH:H2O2 was 1:4:8, reaction temperature and reaction time were determined as 70°C and 15 minutes, respectively. Under these conditions, the yield of FDCA was 55.6% and the purity of FDCA could reach 99%. Moreover, we have speculated the detailed oxidation mechanism of 5-HMF assisted by hydrogen peroxide in alkaline condition to synthesize FDCA.
