The paper describes the principle features necessary for reliable and representative on-line unburned carbon-in-ash (UBC) measurement. The paper shows how modern on-line technology has been applied to obtain truly representative and reliable data for the evaluation of fly ash quality and boiler performance. To assure accurate UBC data from which to make operating decisions, one must achieve representative sampling in the ash stream, comparability of unburned carbon to loss-on-ignition (LOI) with various fuel types, a quality control regime to ensure the accuracy of the on-line measurement system in comparison with laboratory standards and auditing of the QC process.

This article reports on the results of an exploratory survey of the availability andaccessibility of evidence-based information resources provided by medical libraries inAustralia. Although barriers impede access to evidence-based information for hospitalclinicians, the survey revealed that Medline and Cinahl are available in over 90% offacilities. In most cases they are widely accessible via internal networks and the Internet.The Cochrane Library is available in 69% of cases. The Internet is widely accessible andmost libraries provide access to some full-text, electronic journals. Strategies for overcomingrestrictions and integrating information resources with clinical workflow are being pursued.State, regional and national public and private consortia are developing agreementsutilising on-line technology. These could produce cost savings and more equitable accessto a greater range of evidence-based resources.

A micro-EDM equipment which can fabricate three-dimensional micro-structures is developed. A method of electrode wear compensation on-line which is very important to micro 3D structures machined by micro-EDM is presented. In this method, the wear of electrode can be predicted by the statistics law of open rate of discharge status, therefore, its precise model which is very difficult to build as well as the special CAD/CAM system is hardly necessary. At the same time, the micro-EDM CAD/CAM technology which applies the universal CAD/CAM software for milling is also researched and experienced on Unigraphics (UG). At last, micro 3D structures, a micro hemisphere with diameter ∅150+m and a micro 3D beam which is very popular in MEMS, are machined on silicon wafer by this way, which proves the wide useful of this method and the promising application in MEMS.
