Purpose. To assess the severity of penetrating eye trauma in children in Tajikistan. Material and methods. Retrospectively there was analyzed 277 case histories of children with a diagnosis of penetrating eye injury, admitted to the children’s department of the National Medical Centre of the Republic of Tajikistan for the provision of specialized ophthalmological care. Results. The average age of children at the time of injury to the organ of sight was 7.06 ± 3.01 years, mainly these were villagers (70%). Children under 7 years old accounted for 57.8% of those admitted to the hospital. The terms of admission to the hospital ranged from 1 to 14 days, an average of 43.02 ± 33.35 hours. The severity is caused by damage to 2 or more structures of the eyeball in 81,3%. Wounds larger than 6 mm prevailed and amounted to 63,5%. Endophthalmitis at admission was noted in 8,3% of cases. Enucleation was performed in 2 children; 244 children underwent primary surgical treatment. Visual acuity at discharge was higher than 0.1 in 72 of 275 children (26.2%), lower than 0,1 in 194 (70.7%). Conclusion. Almost every second child (43.0%) is admitted to the hospital for primary surgical treatment of an eyeball wound after 24 hours. About 2/3 of cases of eye damage are characterized by large wound sizes. Stab wounds were noted in 90.2% of cases. In 58.8% of cases, damage to the cornea was observed and in 68.6% – damage to the lens area.

Актуальность. Поражения зрительного нерва при закрытой травме глаза приводят к нарушению его функций и сопровождаются снижением остроты зрения, дефектами поля зрения. В большинстве случаев повреждение зрительного нерва устанавливается с опозданием, поскольку основной симптом – снижение остроты зрения – может появиться лишь через 1–2 месяца после травмы. Цель. Оценить эффективность зрительных вызванных потенциалов (ЗВП) для исследования состояния зрительного нерва у пациентов после закрытой травмы глаза в ранний период после травмы. Материал и методы. Обследовано 134 пациента с закрытой (контузионной) травмой глаза через 3,14±0,23 дня после травмы. Регистрация ЗВП у пациентов с закрытой травмой глаза проводили на комплексе аппаратно-программной регистрации «Электроретинограф» (фирма «МБН», Россия). Стимуляция проводилась диффузными вспышками белого цвета, частота 1 Гц. Анализ биопотенциалов зрительной коры головного мозга осуществлялся методом накопления и усреднения с последующим окончательным анализом на компьютере. Результаты. На травмированном глазу, по сравнению с парным глазом, по данным анализа волны Р-100 ЗВП отмечается статистически достоверное (р <0,01) уменьшение амплитуды и увеличение латентности волны Р-100. Данные изменения отражают вовлеченность в патологический процесс зрительного нерва при данном виде травмы. Выводы. В ранний период после закрытой травмы глаза отмечается уменьшение амплитуды и увеличение латентности волны Р-100 ЗВП.

Recent studies in Spain have shown that males, younger workers, and people involved in manual jobs had the highest risk of suffering a work-related eye injury (WREI). This study aims to assess the predictors of sick leave associated with WREI and to compare them with risk factors of initial injury. A retrospective and descriptive study of WREI that causes sick leave of one or more days among workers from an insurance labor mutual company in Spain was conducted over a period from 2008 to 2018. The variables of the study were sex, age, occupation, and type of injury. A total of 9352 (18.6% of 50,265 WREI) cases and 113,395 total days of sick leave were observed, with an estimated EUR 4,994,009.59 of associated labor cost. The main predictors of sick leave related to WREI were found to be female (highest incidence; 25.9 (95% CI (24.8–27.1))), >55 years of age (highest incidence; 20.5 (95% CI (19.3–21.7))), not working in the industry (lowest incidence; 13.8 (95% CI (13.3–14.2))), and not suffering “other disorders of conjunctiva” (lowest incidence; 5.7 (95% CI (4.7–6.8))). The consequences associated with WREI are worse for female and older workers, despite the main risk of suffering WREI being observed in males and younger workers.
