AbstractZn-ion hybrid supercapacitors (SCs) are considered as promising energy storage owing to their high energy density compared to traditional SCs. How to realize the miniaturization, patterning, and flexibility of the Zn-ion SCs without affecting the electrochemical performances has special meanings for expanding their applications in wearable integrated electronics. Ti3C2Tx cathode with outstanding conductivity, unique lamellar structure and good mechanical flexibility has been demonstrated tremendous potential in the design of Zn-ion SCs, but achieving long cycling stability and high rate stability is still big challenges. Here, we proposed a facile laser writing approach to fabricate patterned Ti3C2Tx-based Zn-ion micro-supercapacitors (MSCs), followed by the in-situ anneal treatment of the assembled MSCs to improve the long-term stability, which exhibits 80% of the capacitance retention even after 50,000 charge/discharge cycles and superior rate stability. The influence of the cathode thickness on the electrochemical performance of the MSCs is also studied. When the thickness reaches 0.851 µm the maximum areal capacitance of 72.02 mF cm−2 at scan rate of 10 mV s−1, which is 1.77 times higher than that with a thickness of 0.329 µm (35.6 mF cm−2). Moreover, the fabricated Ti3C2Tx based Zn-ion MSCs have excellent flexibility, a digital timer can be driven by the single device even under bending state, a flexible LED displayer of “TiC” logo also can be easily lighted by the MSC arrays under twisting, crimping, and winding conditions, demonstrating the scalable fabrication and application of the fabricated MSCs in portable electronics.

Mg-substituted α- and β-phase nickel hydroxides with high specific capacitance and good stability have been synthesized via sacrificial metal-based replacement reaction. 2D α- and β-phase nickel-magnesium hydroxide (NiMg-OH) have been synthesized by sacrificing magnesium (Mg) powder with nickel salt aqueous solutions. Interestingly, the phase of the obtained NiMg-OH can be controlled by adjusting the nickel precursor. As well, the Mg powder is used not only as Mg source but also alkali source to form NiMg-OH. The α-phase nickel-magnesium hydroxide sample (α-NiMg-OH) exhibits lager surface area of 290.88 m2 g–1. The electrochemical performances show that the α-NiMg-OH presented a superior specific capacitance of 2602 F g–1 (1 A g–1) and β-phase nickel-magnesium hydroxide sample (β-NiMg-OH) exhibits better stability with 87% retention after 1000 cycles at 10 A g–1. The hybrid supercapacitor composed of α-NiMg-OH and activated carbon (AC) display high storage performance and cycle stability, it presents 89.7 F g–1 (1 A g–1) and of 0–1.6 V potential window and it maintains capacitance retention of 84.6% subsequent to 4000 cycles.

For conventional synthesis of Ni(OH)2/graphene hybrids, oxygen-containing functional groups should be firstly introduced on graphene to serve as active sites for the anchoring of Ni(OH)2. In this work, a method for growing Ni(OH)2 nanosheets on multilayer graphene (MLG) with molecular connection is developed which does not need any pre-activation treatments. Moreover, Ni(OH)2 nanosheets can be controlled to stand or lie on the surface of MLG. The prepared hybrids were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The growth processes are suggested according to their morphologies at different growth stages. The enhanced electrochemical performances as supercapacitor electrode materials were confirmed by cyclic voltammetry (CV) and galvanostatic charge-discharge (GCD) techniques. Ni(OH)2 nanosheets standing and lying on MLG show specific capacities of 204.4 mAh g−1 and 131.7 mAh g−1, respectively, at 1 A g−1 based on the total mass of the hybrids and 81.5% and 92.8% capacity retention at a high current density of 10 A g−1, respectively. Hybrid supercapacitors with as-prepared hybrids as cathodes and activated carbon as anode were fabricated and tested.
